Can an expat own a pick up truck in Bahrain?

bapesta95

Hi all, I'm looking to purchase a second hand Chevrolet Silverado for personal use but the seller I spoke to told me that he can’t sell the truck to me because I’m an expat. Apparently, there is a rule that expats are not allowed to own pick up trucks in Bahrain. I was just wondering if anybody knows if this is true and if so, why is that? I’ve tried to do my research but I can’t seem to find anything about it.

Yes, that is correct. Al vehicles except private can be registered under Company name (expat or Bahraini owned) or under a Bahraini only. That is how the system works.

Same rule in practically every GCC country except UAE.  In some places, it is even worse e.g. in Saudi, to own an SUV, you need to have your family with you.........changing now.
