Hi all,

Newbie on the Hungary forum? Don't know how to start?

This thread is for you ;)

We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country,
or to tell us more on your expat projects in Hungary if you are planning to move there.

It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.

Welcome on board!

Eric Hofer

I'm an expat, now living in Hungary coming up on 23 years.  I'm semi-retired, married to a national with a daughter in high school here.  My background is systems development and fraud investigation; I now write, volunteer as a teacher of English and IT, and continue to study software development.

I'm interested in connecting with other expats and learning from their experiences and insights.

Aoa dear brother, I m Ihsan mirza from Lahore Pakistan. I need tour guide for 03 days. In hungary.

Rather than looking on a forum rather go better official, perhaps slighyly more expensive, but then again a ticket from Lahore is also not very cheap.
Websites in abundance, but I found the below juast as an example.
Trust on professionals in this case I would suggest.

Surely they also have good arrangements, how big is your company?

British ex-pat living now for over a year near Veszprém area, married to a Hungarian and we run an art business together. Would love to find some English speaking ex-pats in my area if around!
Saeed Younas
Hi Saeed, from England visiting Szeged been here for a few weeks would love to connect with locals.
cdw057
@Saeed Younas Are you intending to settle, are you pensioner, or working (remote). For getting connections with locals not too easy, but the easiest ways (in my experience) is to have a hobby (football, chess, knitting, singing) or just hire a gardener. This forum I think is for expats which is great, but for locals (?)

A bit of background though could help.
Me and my wife had no problems with the local connections (even if we do not speak Hungarian), German/English/Russian is fine.
wavydavid
Hi all, I'm not entirely new here but I have finally moved to Hungary after visiting in April/May. Next step, residency...
Bhavna
Congrats Wavydavid!

Hope it all works fine for you!

Hi everyone!

I am new to this forum.  I am Dinuka, a citizen of Sri Lanka, I work as an electrician.  I am twenty seven years old.  I chose my job when I was twenty years old.  Now I have my own business and a group of employees.  I am married, my wife is a graphic designer. I have a nine month old son.  Although I am not in Hungary, I would like to live in a free and peaceful country like Hungary one day.

That's why I like to know about other people's life experiences in foreign countries. 1f60a.svg

Hello all.

New here, looking to start a 3D design/printing business that will need a European location to service German customers. Hungary seems to tick a lot of box's for me so I am  looking to find the benefits/pitfalls of setting up the main design/administration office in the Country.

Looking to first setup manufacturing/distribution for Brtish product in the UK, I would be looking for location nearer to Austria/Vienna for better/cheaper travel back to Britian for trouble shooting.

All the best Phil

Welcome,

If you wanted a location for easy access, you could choose Sopron in Hungary. It's right on the border with motorway links to Vienna and its airport.  There's new motorway to Budapest as well - it's almost completely finished. It's sliced off a good amount of time between Budapest and Sopron. Nearly every educated person in Sopron speaks German to some degree, some speak it extremely well.   Budapest is OK too  and more going on. Wizzair fly to the UK (Liverpool, Luton, Gatwick etc plus others). I use them a lot.

Politics of Hungary are dismal, VAT/tax Is too high, social and health systems are not great and in decline due to underfunding/corruption. There are always a lot of tensions between sections of the community like teachers/LGBTQI+ groups and the Putin supporting autocratic government. They are currently targeting the EU by demonising it as an enemy.  If they have an enemy constantly on the go, they use it as leverage to get re-elected, often using controlled media.  It's hard to say if the elections are free and/or fair.

I agree Sopron is the best bet, they all speak German in the shopping mall there and in some of the shops outside like Tescos. English is not so much unless you find a young adult that is quite westernised.

If you have further questions a recommend that you start a new topic, I live in Austria so will be able to help with questions on this side of the border.

Hi my name is Jens ... German/South African ... my son (17) and I will be moving to Hungary in Jan/Feb 2023, near Zalakaros.

Would you know of any English speaking youth groups nearby ... we are used to driving a lot so even Budapest would be OK for a start ...

Kindest regards

Jens

This looks like a scam.  Only two posts about the same thing, one in English and one in Spanish.

Post more details of the item. 30 EUR difference is going to disappear in postal costs. It cannot be worth the effort.

Or try Ebay. I have bought things like car parts on Spanish Ebay and had them sent to Hungary.  OP can just buy it themselves.
