Hi Shirley,
I'm a retired Australian now living in Pereybere and loving it except I miss my friends in Nepal where I lived for 11 years. Happy to meet up and discuss my move. Which part of Mauritius are living?
@portmac hi, I live in Grand Gaube. I am about to build a house on my land - what a drama lol. Big transition from service of Australia to Mauritius.
@Yoginee - Hi Yoginee,
Thanks for the reply. I have logged the 'bazaar lingo' and look forward to absorbing whatever I can of the local idiom from afar. My French is not so good and what I have is locked away in the archives of my brain. I'll call some of that up also. Keep well.

@shirley1421971 - I have sensed that... perhaps Mauritius is a younger person's domain. That was behind my inclination to consider Rodriques instead, though I would be thrilled to live in either. All the best.
Greensam.
Hello,
I am already expat, from France living in Switzerland since 25 years, contemplating buying a house in Mauritius, at the beginning only for vacation but may also change to a complete move in the long run.
I know close to nothing about Mauritius, so interested to learn before investing there…
Hello everyone,
Welcome on board !
@ SpookyTheFirst, I suggest that you read the information provided on the official website and then ask us any question you might have regarding buying a house.
There are several programs that enable a foreigner to buy a house, you will find them under the acquire menu here : https://residency.mu/

*********UPDATE : PUPPY FOUND A HOME*********
Hello everyone!
We need help and ideas please!
We urgently need to rehome a beautiful and very gentle puppy.
Moana is tiny and was found trying to drink sea water at the beach, because she was so thirsty. She also had a dislocated arm, but this has been set at the vet where she was also cleared of fleas and worms. She is having her plaster cast taken off tomorrow and her vaccinations.
She is now much stronger, loves everyone, and would make a great pet, as she is super with kids.
We leave Mauritius next week as we are just on holiday here and have been nursing her.
Could you, or anybody you know, give her the home she deserves? Please contact us
With love, Alice, Dave and rescue puppy Moana xxx

Hello Everyone,
I hope you this message finds you all well. I am originally from Mauritius but have lived in the UK/Europe for the past 20+ years. I am a specialist in dementia and mental health. Ideally, I would like to support our communities back home (Mauritius) and improve diagnosis and end-of-life care in dementia from a humanitarian perspective. I'm liaising with friends, families, and literally everyone I come across to find out a bit about care in Mauritius. Do not hesitate to contact me, just drop me a message. I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
Best wishes
Hello Neha,
Welcome to expat.com!
What a wonderful and thoughtful idea
Unfortunately, Mauritius has a long way to go when it comes to Mental health. People are still scared to talk about mental health, although things have started to change with the younger generation.
I hope that some of our members will contact you soon.
I wish you all the best for your endeavours
Cheers,
Yoginee

We both like a great number of sports activities, exploring the island and are very happy to meet new people around! I also created a women-only meetup group for various activities, check it out if interested! Have a great day! [link moderated]

I also know how to make wigs

@Yoginee
Hello Yoginee,
Thank you ever so much for your kind and thoughtful message.
Affirmative. I can relate. Negative stereotyped beliefs, feelings or behaviours affect our perceptions about mental health & dementia. I want to reassure everyone whoever contact me, our conversation will remain confidential. Concomitantly, it will allow me to understand our culture and how diagnoses are conducted, and I can provide relevant support. I also speak creole but my french comes with an accent. I'm sure y'all won't mind at all. Just a courteous and reassuring message that I do not judge or discriminate in anyway.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

Hello All!
in the process of relocating to Mauritius from Kenya, just back from my recon visit, loved it! Looking for a home in the north pieds dans l’eau, if anyone can make any recommendations.
Also, how to meet people on the island 🤔 groups, associations, meet ups? Anything?
This is the first time I’ve been on this forum, despite other moves, but the topics look informative!
Nice meeting you all!!!
Hanan
@Hanan El-Maadawy Welcome Hanan. I returned here 5 months ago after living in Australia most of my life. There are not many meet ups here that I have found. Hence, I too got on here to make other friends that are from other countries. Feel free to add me.
