I can't find out what kind of visa I need if any as an American moving to Tunisia to get married and live. I move April 5th. And does anyone know why I need a new birth certificate to marry that in under 3 months old.

You do need a birth certificate that's dated 3 months prior.  The reason is because in Tunisia, when you get married, they print the name of the spouse on to the birth certificate.  So, likely because Tunisians are required to have a current b.c. it's logical to think that foreigners would as well.  This is to prevent someone trying to get married to more than one person, as polygamy is not legal in Tunisia even though it's a majority muslim country.  I think you are able to stay for up to 6 months at a time as an American (I'm not American, so I'm not sure) and any longer you will have to go to the police station and register for a carte sejour.

It's 120 days for Americans. But it takes a month or two to get your card. You will have a paper that will be good enough until it comes, but make sure that you keep it with you all the time you are out.
