Digital Nomad Visa Migrante Web

Hey everyone

I really appreciate all of the info in this thread. Im trying to get the digital nomad visa and all of this has been extremely helpful...More helpful than the Miami consulate

Has anyone been asked to notarize the letter from their employer? This is what the consulate is insisting on even though this is the first i've heard of this. My manager is an incredibly busy individual, and it was generous enough for him to take 15 minutes of his time to write/sign a verification letter. Hes all the way across the country and theres no way he would take an hour of his time to notarize this letter, mail it to me etc.

I have invoices proving my income over the last few months, but they are also asking for bank statements. I thought the requirement was to demonstrate income OR bank funds over $18000. For those who demonstrated with income, did you still need to have bank statements?

Im seriously considering just going to Brazil and doing it at the PF. I have all the stated documentation they list on the website/ government promo materials but theyre adding all of these nit-picky items in the 11th hour. It seems like many here have had success doing it in Brazil and they are a bit more flexible when it comes to stuff like this. We'll see...

Thanks everyone

07/26/22 @Cortes1999 -- The Consulates give themselves the out that they can ask for any additional documents that they think they need.  The Federal Police give themselves the same out, and naturally US documents are a lot easier to get in the US than in Brazil, so if you can work it out with the Consulate, that's the way to go.  The Federal Police are professional and honest, but they're not particularly known for flexibility.

If you decide to come on a tourist visa and try to get an Authorization for Residency as a digital nomad from the Federal Police, be sure to have apostilles on your US documents (not your passport, but the others) and get Sworn Translations made of them as soon as you get to Brazil.  See post from Daring12 above.

@abthree

Yeah that makes sense. Im thinking now to go back to Brazil and try in PF. Even if they say that I need other documents, Ill at least get a concrete list from the officers/clerks that Ill be working with and try to collect them at a distance or come back with them later. This visa did sound too easy to be true lol
abthree
07/27/22 @Cortes1999  Don't get me wrong:  I'm not saying that's a GOOD idea! 😂

You say "back to Brazil".  If that means that you've already spent time here during the last twelve months, remember that those days will still count against you when you return, and will affect whether you'll be able to renew your visa this trip.

@cortes1999 "Ill at least get a concrete list from the officers/clerks that Ill be working with and try to collect them at a distance"

The thing is now everything is done online through MigranteWeb, and you don't get to speak to anyone until your application is accepted! Keep that in mind. You only get to see the Federal Police after your application is accepted, for your residence permit.

They have a list of "documents" on the website that you need to attach, however it is not always clear how those documents should be exactly. Maybe you can get some assistance through their email addresses but I'm not sure about that.

I've applied without any assistance (and not so hopeful about it, feels to east to be true as you said), as soon as I get some reaction from them, I will share here my experience. I just don't want to do it now as I'm not sure if I did the right way.

Meanwhile, as an extra resource, here's the main guidance from the Ministry of Justice (MJSP) website in Portuguese and in English:

Informative sheets as pdf files can be downloaded from here: https://portaldeimigracao.mj.gov.br/pt/informativos

I personally did not find anything new in them, but good to have an official resource.

As part of my plan for staying in Brazil under the Digital Nomad Visa, I would like to stay in AirBnB's in various cities during my time in Brazil.  Would the Federal Police accept a AirBnB booking and address as a proof of address in Brazil under this program?  If not, what would I need in order to register with the Federal Police?

Good question.
You are applying for a permeant visa. Any time you move you must notify the PF and RF. This being said you may have an issue.
This is a new visa so I am not sure if it will work. I am sure of notifying the PF and RF  anytime you move.

Hi lovely community,

I'm currently trying to apply for a digital nomad visa from Switzerland and getting all my documents sorted.

I'm stuck where it says: "Personal statement certifying the ability to carry out work
activities remotely (independent of location)".

Has anyone of you created such a document before? Is it "just" a letter/statement I write myself? Or what do you think?

Cheers and many thanks!

Hi all, some updates:

Normally you should receive a response within 30 days to your application on MigranteWeb (within Brazil). My application only went "Under Analysis" on the 27th day, and I got a response from them on the 33rd day. Just to keep in mind.

And my process is not over yet; I will have to provide some extra documents about the criminal background. However, this online system is pretty difficult in this sense, when they find a document insufficient, you have to guess why they rejected it for.

Meanwhile, I discovered the webpage below for all the list of criminal certificates, according to your state in Brazil. I think it is a good reference from the Policia Federal themselves:
Certidões Criminais
Abaixo estão as certidões criminais disponíveis no Brasil. Escolha as certidões do(s) estado(s) conforme o(s) local(is) de residência.

I had provided the online Policia Federal Certificate and the Poupatempo certificate from SP. However this list seems a bit different. I will add these ones as well now.

If not, what would I need in order to register with the Federal Police?
- @californiainbrazil
Here are the exact list of documents needed to register at the Federal Police, after your application has been accepted and published in DOU:

For the address and contact information, you have to fill in a form, and it says that it should "preferably be accompanied by a simple copy of proof of residence".

This wording seems to leave it to the specific Federal Police unit or officer that you will be dealing with. Personally, if I can get to that stage one day, I am also planning to apply with my Airbnb printout (which was already accepted at the Receita Federal - long stay airbnb of a few months though). At worst, I thought of asking my host to sign this print out or something.

About changing addresses, as @Texanbrazil says, you are normally required to report your change of address to the Police and Receita, every time you move. I saw some residence cards have an address on it, so if this is the case, it might turn very time and money consuming, so one might need to think of alternative ways.

I did create one actually, and they haven't asked me to correct it yet so maybe it has been accepted. Or maybe they will ask me to correct it later. How I have written it:

* I just started like the criminal Declaration format (Examples can be found here: https://www.gov.br/pf/pt-br/assuntos/im … ormularios ) Stated my name, passport, cpf, parents names, and the company name/position and the date since I'm working,

* and continued by using the exact wording in the law required for this declaration, which is about having "a capacidade de executar suas atividades profissionais de forma remota, por meio de tecnologias da informação e de comunicação" and I have added another paragraph repeating this information and assuring this availability in different phrases :)

* And to add some more legalese, I have also went on saying that I recognise that through the Resoluçao 45/2021, I would be responsible of any false information given and it could end up in cancellation of my residence permit in such case.

* Added City, State, Date, Name and Signature

We're taking a trip at the end of the month to Vitória, ES, and I notice that AirB&B has added a new option on their reservation confirmation:  "Get a PDF for visa purposes".  When you click on it, the first thing it asks is to get your name right, so you have a chance to enter it as it appears on your passport.  This seems to be directed at Digital Nomads, so I think they have you covered.

@californiainbrazil

Apparently, you might be able to request a change of address online, with a declaration:

DTI - Diretoria de Tecnologia da Informação e InovaçãoSISMIGRA - Sistema de Registro Nacional MigratórioVersão 1.70.0 - 20/06/2022 19:53

Please confirm if this is the right link for each case though, as I have found this link a bit randomly while looking for something else.

It appears to be the up-to-date link.

What a mess of of a process.  Not worth to go thru all the hoops.  Just apply for the student visa. There are many immigration companies that will assit you in getting this with minimal studies required. Even if you fail or drop out. you still have the visa.

I applied for my DN visa and after filling out the migrant web application and providing an extensive applications,  they questionnined every previous trip i made in the past asked me why i worked as a tourist for 3 years (6 months in 6 months away)  where I went in brazil where did I stay what did I do.   Really. it is just not worth all the hassle and costs.    I recommend just doing the student visa - allows you to do the same as digitial nomad and has less requirements

breview

can anybody recommend a trusting and not too expensive immigration lawyer in Belo Horizonte- Brazil to assist with Visa/Residency procedures? Or is it easy to do it by ourselves?

breview

@Daring12 m

Could you ask your lawyer if he has a colleague that he can recommend in the city of Belo Horizonte?

Where is your lawyer’s office and how much did he charge you? I got a REALLY high price-quote for assistance with paperwork to apply for residency in the Minas Gerais’s capital.

Mike, a Nomad visa is a permanent visa that allows you to work. You may not work under a student visa. and if not enrolled in class you must exit Brazil.

In principle the process should be easy, if you qualify for the type of residency that you're requesting, and all of your documents are in your hands and in order.  What's the basis for your residency application?

It's not clear from your description whether your were applying for a DN visa at a Brazilian Consulate in Canada, or for an Authorization of Residency as a DN with the Federal Police while in Brazil.  Their processes are somewhat different, and certainly they would have questions about past visas, and about the status of your current visa if you were already in-country.  The questions probably would have been sharper at the Federal Police, because the Digital Nomad visa has been around long enough now that they would expect applicants to have already been pre-cleared by a Consulate.  Not having gone through a Consulate would already be one red flag.

I wouldn't put too much faith in immigration companies that will help someone get a student visa "with minimal study required".  As Texanbrazil said, employment isn't allowed on a student visa, and we're seeing stronger enforcement against foreigners trying to finesse the rules.

@worldsoundly You managed to get a cpf whilst applying for the visa, I thought you could only get that once you have a visa?

Texanbrazil

-@ltoby955

Forgeiners may get a CPF at your consulates or while in Brazil at the RF or even the post office,

ltoby955

@Texanbrazil Ah thanks, I guess then you have to make tax returns even if you don't get the visa ?

Texanbrazil

No, Has nothing to do about filing taxes. ( except when you need to file)

Cpf is needed for many things Such as getting a cell plan/phone. Using mail service

Only time I use it was for vaccinations SUS site, open bank accounts., sometime caxia@ mercado will ask for it but you do not need it,

abthree

-@Texanbrazil

Correct.  Expats from the US tend to call it a "Brazilian Tax ID" because it's roughly equivalent to a similar number used there, and issued by the Receita Federal, which is equivalent to the IRS.  Probably a bad habit, except that "Brazilian Tax ID" is more descriptive than its real name, "CPF", which is the acronym for "Physical Person Registration" -- "Cadastro de Pessoa Física".  You DO need it if you're liable for Brazilian income taxes, but just having one doesn't make you liable.  More and more, you just need one for daily life in Brazil.

ltoby955

@abthree Thanks to you and Texan, you have an ongoing issue with Azul and can't progress without the CPF. Great that I don't have to file a tax return as presently I am just visiting.

Aneen Marina

Hello! Coming into this thread late but really need some help with this digital nomad visa. Desperately need some help!!

I'm stuck on Migrante Web (figured this would be an easy process after I've already been to the Policia Federal twice and this is where they told me to go). I was able to make an account but have no idea where to go from here, literally on the first page of the form. I have no idea what to select for type of Residence?

If someone could give me a quick rundown of what I need to select/any important things to know afterwards and to make this as quick as possible (I'm meant to go to Argentina in 3 weeks...), it would be GREATLY appreciated.

MikieCA

@Aneen Marina If you're not failiar ho to use the website or form, at this point my advice would be to go see someone who specialises in immigration to help you with the forms.  It won't be chep however the form is relatively self explanatory.    You may want to seek professional advice and guidance how to use the form if you can't youself.

MikieCA

@Texanbrazil Under the DN Visa you cannot work for any Brazilian company however nowhere does is restrict you from having funds elsewhere.

nullpointerexception

Is the digital nomad visa impossible for Americans? The State Department's processing time for Apostilles exceeds Brazil's criminal history check duration validity.

According to state department website, the apostille:"Processing Times: We will process your request in 10 to 11 weeks from the date we receive it. We are offering mail-in service but we are not currently offering in-person appointment service"

According to Brazil's requirements: "Certificate of Criminal Record... Police checks are valid for up to 3 months from the date of issue."

Wtf?

abthree

12/09/22  Welcome, nullpointerexception.  If you're requesting a Digital Nomad visa through a Brazilian Consulate in the United States, no apostille is required.

If you're requesting the Federal Police to process you in Brazil as a Digital Nomad, (or requesting the visa at a Brazilian Consulate outside the United States) they're willing to show a certain amount of flexibility on the three month deadline, especially in view of the State Department's statement; it would help for you to have a printout of that page from State's website when you go.

By "flexibility", I mean that the apostille was requested before the document was 90 days old, and that you present it to the Federal Police shortly after the date of the apostille.  Up to a month or so after probably won't be a problem, once you explain it; the longer you delay after the date of the apostille, the more difficult it's likely to become.

nullpointerexception

Thanks abthree. I'm indeed applying from outside the USA, so I will need to rely on that flexibility.

Obirije

Hi @abthree, Everyone, I'm new here.

I have applied for the DN residency and get a response after 3 weeks, stating;

Residence Permit Application Form, according to Annex I, signed by the interested party or his legal representative

Considering that the document presented does not correspond to the documentation required by the Normative Resolution, submit a Residence Authorization Application Form, according to Annex I, of RN 45/2021, signed by the interested party or his legal representative.

Where can I see and fill the form online and submit? I thought I had filled the right form.

Also got this response;

Criminal record certificates or equivalent document issued by the competent judicial authority from which you have resided in the last five years.

Present criminal record certificates or equivalent document issued by the competent judicial authority from which you have resided IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS.

I have already submitted the certificate from Federal police, and the State of São Paulo, I'm not sure what this requirement is, unless they are requesting one from my home country. (I have been staying in Brazil for 9 months now).

Lastly, the third response was;

Document proving your affiliation, duly legalized and translated by a sworn public translator, unless the information is already contained in the document referred to in item II of Art. 4, of Resolution 45/2021

IN VIEW OF THE FACT THAT THE DOCUMENTATION HAS NOT BEEN PRESENTED, present a Document proving your affiliation, unless the information is already contained in the document referred to in item II, of art. 4, of R 45/2021.

I am really not sure how to go about this last part.

abthree

12/23/22  Welcome, Obirije.  The answers to your Digital Nomad application questions appear below:

The form appears at the bottom of this Resolution:

You should probably print it, complete it, sign it, scan it, and upload the scan as part of your application.

Criminal Background Checks are required from all countries where you have lived at any time during the five years previous to your application.  That includes your home country, and anywhere else where you've lived during that time.

This refers to your birth certificate or a similar legal document that shows the names of both of your parents.  This is required from every applicant, unless the names of their parents already appear on their passports.

Roddie Simmons

@Texanbrazil Got my CPF that way.

Obirije

Thank you so much @abthree, really appreciate the clarification.

Congratulations!  It's probably published in the Diário Oficial da União. Search for your name over the past few days here:

https://www.in.gov.br/leiturajornal

Obirije

Thanks @abthree, I've seen my name published.

Quick question, I applied single and I would be getting married in a few weeks, how would my wife benefit from the residency now? would she need to apply for a visa to come to Brazil?

Fyi, I'm back in my home country to meet her and we are planning to come back to Brazil together.
