Hi everyone,

Two years after the start of the pandemic, it is time to take stock of the evolution of the cost of living in Mauritius or more specifically, in the region where you live. The idea is to help people get ready for their expatriation to Mauritius to plan their day-to-day budget for some key expenses.

If you are a tenant, what is your monthly rent? Please give details of the type of property you are in.

How much are your monthly charges (water, electricity, common area maintenance charges, etc.) and additional expenses (mobile phone and/or internet box subscriptions)?

How much do you spend on commuting (by public transport or using your car) each month?

How much does your grocery shopping cost in Mauritius?

How much do you spend on health care (health insurance, consultations, etc.)?

How much are your children's school fees, depending on the type of school they attend?

What about your budget for leisure activities?

Do not hesitate to indicate other everyday costs if they could be useful to others.

More and more expensive sadly.

Cost of petrol doubled.

Monthly 1 person food when from 7000/8000 to more than 10.000

Rentals are still the same, but it's only because a lot of foreigners left so many are empty.

The cheap menu at the restaurant used to be 400Rs. Its at least 600Rs now.

As an expat, alone, I'd say I can live with 50.000 a month if I do 0 extra and 0 savings.

And like everywhere, salaries ain't following.

Just found this topic.

There is a website -- numbeo.com - that seems to have updated data regarding cost of living etc. Can someone currently in Mauritius confirm the data please?

Also, current retirement visa requirements are for evidence of funds transfer from abroad of USD 1500 per month. I would think that this would be for a retired couple to have a comfortable expat life. Is this feasible?

@Laura91 With rent. I could live with it but I wouldn't stay in mauritius if I had that, it's really the bare minium to survive to me.

About 50.000 MUR. So that means that I will be able to get by with my not to big a pension from my home country of about 2.000 euros .
