wanted to know exactly how strong the ex-pat community is there!

Hi!  I'm strongly considering taking a job teaching English in Istanbul.  I'm a 43 year old single woman with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Masters in teaching.  I've read mixed reviews about living in Turkey and I wanted to know exactly how strong the ex-pat community is there and what, as a single, Western, Christian woman I can truly expect.

Thanks!

well, istanbul is a huge city. there are areas with a real strong expat community along with areas that are fully turkish. so it depends where you will be living in.
but wherever you go, you will find friendly people. in fact, you will be treated extra-nicely because you're a foreigner.
i have a very close american friend just came here a month ago. she's all happy and comfortable. i can introduce you to her if you ever need a company.
