Just received an email advising WISE Transfer Fees to Philippines are increasing - look like about 20% more than before. Y'all let me know if there is a better Money Send Service out there. Thx

I think all transfer fees for all money remit n transfer companies are gonna be jacked up BIGGLY!....Sign of inflation....
Oursus
It’s way less that that.

Transferring $1000 will cost an additional $0.90.

Is wise better than Remitly?
kristopherryanwatson

@Wellsfry

Never been a fan of Remitly. I've always had problems with it, and therefor i wouldn't personally recommend it.  but that's just me.

Issues with Wise have been few and far between.
Though recently, a money transaction I was expecting to be deposited to one of my accounts took 2 days longer than usual,

Wellsfry

@kristopherryanwatson  thanks... I will be comparing them this week...

I'm a big Wise fan.

If I'm happy with any service or product I stick with it, whether it's a restaurant, grocery store, product in the grocery store, internet provider, doctor or Wise.

For example I may be buying the same product off the grocery shelf for years, if they are out of stock, I'll try a competitors product, if I like it I will continue buying it. The same for my internet provider, I had bad service so switched, I'm happy with my new provider.

I've been using Wise for years, only if the service becomes bad would I consider changing.

I'm a big fan of money too &  not much else

Me as well.  Granted Wise has the occasional hiccup once in a while. What platform or technology of its kind doesn't?  no solution is perfect, but the occasional hiccups that do happen are so few and far between that I really would not consider anything else.

Prior to using Wise for the past year and a half, i was using Xoom, and before that,  dare I hesitate to say...PayPal. which is the ABSOLUTE WORST.

whether its coke or pepsi...sony or microsoft....premium or durex,
I am loyal to one brand, service, whatever, until they give me enough reason not to be

(..or until the condom breaks when it shouldn't.)

I recently started using Wise again due to Enzyte Bob's endless promotion, haha.. but really - it works well and their direct bank to bank is the lowest cost I have found to transfer. Plus they give a clear picture of the transaction as it processes through.

The only aspect I really didn't like is to get the fastest transfer the first time you have to enable the ACH through 'direct login', which utilizes Plaid - a third party service - to capture your login credentials for Wise.  I think for security it would be better to not do that - just give them your bank routing info and accept the extra 3 day delay on that first transaction. I only did it because I was in a bit of a hurry.

Prior to Wise I was using Wells Fargo Express Send service which is slightly more expensive and Moneygram for cash pickup. I find both of those to be excellent as well, just costing slightly more.

Notice that Wise gives a referral fee . . .almost enough to pay a bar fine Angeles City. I can't make it to Angeles City so I don't pursue referral fees. . . .
kristopherryanwatson
@Enzyte Bob

now THAT referral fee sounds very convincing.

Snipped from the last line of kristopherryanwatson post, with a referral of DUREX .

<SNIP> . .or until the condom breaks when it shouldn't.

This Expat had paid a bar fine and ended up at his hotel. He had a package of Durex Magnum XXX sitting on the table. The Bar Girl asked him what they are for?

Stymied for an answer, he said I buy them at the Pharmacy when it's raining to cover my cigarette to keep it lit.

Sometime later this bar girl got caught in a rainstorm while smoking. She went into the Pharmacy and told the druggist she would like to buy a condom. He asked her what size?. . . She thought about it for one minute and said one to fit a Camel.

(Camel Cigarettes were once popular in the states.)

If you keep snipping Bob there will be no need for condoms anymore and Mr Durex will go bust.

I'm guessing you guys using Wise and other money transfer services don't have a bank account here? I have always transferred funds directly from BofA to our BDO savings account. Neither charges a transfer fee and it takes 2 business days. Then I just use the ATM whenever I need cash. I haven't done a comparison of exchange rates, but it hasn't been bad enough for me to take the time. And BDO also lets me transfer money to GCash (for p25), which I use to pay all of our utility bills and for any online shopping.

I guess you transfer into a peso account?
Good  service it sounds, but i though BDO charges USD 8 per transaction

(1) There is no such thing as a Free Lunch or a Free Transfer.

(2) You probably are getting a Hose Job by getting a poor exchange rate.

(3) People who use Wise have the money deposited in there bank account. I bank at BDO also.

(4) Recently my transfers have taken several minutes with Wise.

(5) Read post #11 from pnwcyclist.

@rcvining

I'm guessing you're being selective as to which posts you read in this thread ?

the majority of us have mentioned that we transfer from a US account to a Peso account via Wise in some form.

And as far as i am aware, there is no transfer between a US/Peso account that doesn't mandate a fee of some kind. if you can defend your side and prove otherwise, i would love to see that.

emvaningen
@rcvining

Help us and tell us how you get fee-free transfers. I am aware that some banks waive incoming fees for their good clients. I am not aware that BDO does that.
Also very interested to read somewhere that BoA does not cherge an outgoing fee. The best I have seen from Europe is EUR10 flat via ING.
The only way to avoid any form of fee is with HSBC global transfers, but that is EUR, GBP and USD only (for the Philippines. No pesos) Currency exchange charge for EUR is about 50 centavos per EUR.
I am tempted to agtee with those who use Wise. For smaller amounts it's the best combi of rate and ROE.
