Card A - Temporary Residence Permit - Unlimited Job Market

bc2910

Hi all,

I have received my first single permit in February 2022, my residency card in May 2022 and it is valid for 3 years.  On the backside of the card, I have the information that the job market is unlimited (marché du travail - illimité). Does this mean that I can change my job without renewing my residence permit?

Is it a common practice for a person who obtained the single permit for the first time?  I tought that I need to apply for a single permit each time I change my employer.

No, sometimes the government made mistake instead to put limited they wrongly put unlimited. If you have a card A it must be linked to only your employer. However after 5 years you have to apply for card B and with it you are free to work anywhere and itis unlimited. using that card B you can ask for nationality.

It depends if this is correct or not (commune mistake) although illimité, indeed, means changing jobs unlimited without asking for a permit to do so. Is it the first year you are in BE? Are you joining your family under family reunification?

Thank you for your answers.

Yes, it is my first year in Belgium and I am not under family reunification, I came directly after receiving my single permit.

When you change employer, your new employer must ask for a new work authorization. As your stay in Belgium is dependent on your employment, this step is mandatory.
