Introduction

I have lived and worked in Cape Verde since 2007 and visited every inhabited island in the archipelago. I have first-hand knowledge about life and work here including salaries, hiring practices, work permits, company culture, and where and how to find jobs even if you do not know a single word of Portuguese I also own and operate several small businesses here and understand the nuances and bureaucracy of the local business market. I have run a consulting business specializing in Expat Relocation and Investment to help entrepreneurs start businesses here. I know the Cape Verde markets and economic sectors intimately due to my knowledge of the sources of official data, knowledge of the business and investment laws, international business and executive experience, and on-the-ground experience as a fellow-entrepreneur, backed by my constant research and experience with the projects I've already helped others with.

I joined expat.com on 20 June 2011.

I've lived here for over 10 years and I have lived on several islands and visited all the rest many, many times (I used to work as the chief financial officer of the Fast Ferry company). I'm probably the expat with the most in-depth knowledge about Cape Verde. In addition to my professional experience, I am also an entrepreneur myself. I have even documented all of my knowledge in an e-Guide about living and working in Cape Verde. drive.google.com/open?id=16Gw4HOG7eoskN1T8hzzb26BrLHcouocU

Lack of inter-island maritime and air connections; not enough forms of entertainment for long-term residents; it is 40 years behind the Caribbean in terms of development and tourism; serious obstacles to starting a business for new comers unless they have help; unnecessary government interference in the economy; work ethic is lacking and newcomers need to be aware of what to look out for and how to avoid unnecessary mistakes when starting a business or when hiring staff.
