Student pass rejection

Hi, my son was born in Singapore and studying ever since he was in nursery. He’s holding STP and just finished his primary 1 from one of the International school. Now he is going to primary 2 in the same school and his student pass was rejected. There is no reason given from ICA. We are going to appeal. Need your kind advice to appeal as we do not know what is the reason of rejection. Thanks in advance.

Does your son's current "STP" mean student pass or visit pass (STVP)?

An appeal without adressing (i.e. removing) the rejection reason will not work. So you should find it out first, e.g.  by contacting the processing officer at ICA.

One possible reason is that they expect a boy born and raised in Singapore to become PR and serve the nation. This is obviously the case if the parents are PR or even citizen - in that case he probably has no chance to get a student pass, as it is an obvious attempt to avoid NS (=military service).

@beppi Hi Beppi, thanks for your reply. My son has been holding STP since kindergarten not STVP.  And me and my wife have been living in Singapore for more than 12 years and no chance to get PR despite being applied for 5 times. My son was included in the 5th time. This means that we are fully aware of and not trying to avoid NS.  I wonder how can I find out the reason of rejection.  What I heard is ICA will not be given the reason. Any advices ? TIA.

STP, SVP and STVP are used interchangeably and means "Short Term Visit Pass".

As far as I know, it is not possible to stay in Singapore on that for longer than three months.

Maybe you mean Student Pass, which isn't normally abbreviated (to avoid confusion with S-Pass)?

In that case, why don't you apply for a DP for him? That is the visa intended for such a purpose.

Tayzar

@beppi What I meant STP is for student pass. Both me and my wife are holding SPass and we don't meet the criteria to apply DP for my son. ICA has given student pass to my son for the past few years and all of sudden rejected without a reason. We are also financially stable to support our child to continue to study in SG.

beppi

So you are trying to circumvent the financial requirements for bringing your child to Singapore?

This might work for a while (as long as ICA does not notice this), but not forever - as you have now found out.

Sorry to say, but if you don't meet the criteria for a DP (and I assume you mean the S$6000/month minimum salary requirement), then you are not "financially stable" enough in the eyes of the Singapore authorities.

I recommend you look for a solution in another country. Good luck!

@Tayzar go to ica and ask them about the reason for rejection. They should be able to tell you.
