Hello everyone,

Every year, our lives are punctuated by events, twists and turns and all sorts of unexpected things. Local and international news has inevitably had an impact on your life and your projects in Portugal in one way or another.

As the year draws to a close, let's share the highlights of 2022.

Tell us, what do you remember about your year?
What was the highlight of your life in Portugal?
On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your year?

Thank you for your future contribution!

Jean Denise

My highlight for 2022 is my wedding day it was magical we had as close to a Portuguese wedding as we could get, our neighbours are Portuguese & friends & they organised everything for us all we had to do was turn up.

on a scale of 1-10 I would rate our year a big 10, our lives in Portugal there isn’t a score to justify it there’s definitely no going back for us.

finally doing our residency was also up there in the 10 scale feel like we properly belong now.

Happy New Year.. May it be Happy, Healthy and Abundant.

I am Portuguese.

My family immigrated to the United  States in 1961. In 1970, at the age of 18, I was ready for the military draft. At that time the US was fighting in Vietnam, and Portugal was in Angola. I became a United States Citizen. At the time the US made you renounce your former citizenship.

Fast forward to 2022 and I found out that Portugal and the US were allowing dual citizenship. I applied for and got my US passport. October 2022, my wife and I landed in the airport in Porto. Our itinerary consisted of a 2 month stay in Portugal. In the city where I was born, Tomar, I applied for and got my official paperwork as a Portuguese citizen. I now hold dual citizenship. While "home", after all, "Home is where the heart is..." we looked for and found a piece of land. We placed a deposit, signed the paperwork in November 2022, and, are still waiting for the finalization. Who knows what 2023 holds in store?

One of the highlights was doing a road trip with my 11-year old son and our dog from Amsterdam to Cascais. He still talks about it until today. It was a way more pleasant way to move to Portugal than the flight my wife and daughter took! I'd do it again any day and can always recommend for parents ho have more than one child to spend some quality time with one of the children.
