Hi

My name is Phil. I'm from the USA and i met my wife online in 2007.

Only in January of 2020 was I able to make a permanent move here (in the midst of the Taal volcano eruptions).

I've still not reached retirement age to receive pension but married in 2021 and am enjoying life here in the Philippines.

Hey all,

I am the FNG on the forums. I would like to apologize for my mistakes beforehand.  All in good fun in my quest for knowledge.

I am still in the states. Coming for my second visit soon. This one longer than the last.

I plan to marry once I square everything away. This trip will pretty much cement the relationship. Marriage will allow me to buy our land and build a home, hopefully.

Wish me well in my new adventure.

Bhavna

Hello srvonn,

Hi Ece107

How can I learn some basic Tagalog before I emigrate to Philippines?

Colin

bigpearl

Welcome to the forum Colin, boots on the ground but in the mean time no matter your country google will be your best friend, plenty of free apps to learn many of the (from memory) 84 dialects here, Tagalog being the most common then Visayas, Ilicano, lots of Spanish mixed in as well and the list goes on. Most here converse in Tagalog and also english.

Good luck and enjoy your studies.

Cheers, Steve.

RCPattersom

Good day all, Hope is well just wanted to say hello as a new member really enjoying my stay here in cebu looking forward to many many more.

pnwcyclist

Welcome RCPattersom, to the forum. I spent several years in Cebu - lots to see and do, and many places to explore. Have you been to any nearby islands, or taken the Trans Central Hwy to the other side?

Larry Fisher

@pnwcyclist hell, I've been here 6 months and haven't taken that hwy. And I bought a brand new car! 🤣

I did go to Bohol this month.  Nice.

And I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

Welcome to the forum!

RCPattersom

@pnwcyclist Hi yes spent 6 month in Baguio city nice fwy their from manila and 6 months in Bulacan enjoyed all of it.

pnwcyclist

Larry, and RC, they call it a Highway, but it's really not.. it twist like a snake along the ridges, and through the canyons - the views along that road are amazing, and you can stop at West35 for lunch - it has magnificent views in every direction. Then you can descend into Balamban, on the west coast of Cebu, or just turn around and go back into the city. It is a very steep and winding road however, so if you're not familiar with driving in those conditions, it would be best to hire a driver.

I will leave it at that since this is the newcomer forum. If anyone has further interest, just start a new thread.

Hi,

I am a Canadian living in Puerto Galera.

I work online with Canadian and US clients.

I am looking for people with 10 to 20 years of business owner experience who might want to learn what I do and work with clients from their home cities.

Eric Jordan

pindot,

Stick it in the classified add section. I have been in business for 50 years and you post an ad on an expat open forum? shows your lack of integrity and how business is conducted as well as scamming abilities.

Cheers, Steve.

pindot

I sent expat.com a message asking for advertising rates and recommendations but have not heard back from them.

Lucky me that you answered, as you would seem to know everything.

Cheryl

Hello pindot,

I will get in touch with you in private. 1f601.svg

Good luck.

@Julien Hi, I'm an Australian with a Davao g/friend. I'm definitely moving to Cebu or Davao for several years. Which one depends sole on safety for a white foreigner in Davao. I'd much rather live the next 12 months in Davao, & then Cebu for a few years.

I'm guessing this has been asked many times - but I'd appreciate it if you could direct me to an appropriate thread with current thoughts? Money is not a problem for me. I understand Cebu is safe for me - but Davao....???

GuestPoster357

@Julien Not really new here, Lost my PW so added Lost in front of my name.

GuestPoster357

@Julien Not exactly new, I forgot my pasword, and I am on a new laptop. I just added Lost in front of my name.

Davao is as safe than Cebu but Davao is a big bukid. I live in Davao since many years and here it is realy farm mind...forget fancy items, culture events. Here the dream of Davaenos is to ride a pickup truck or a big SUV even if they are only 2 in the family...very few cars here. I know very well Cebu and according to me it is a lot better than Davao...Cebu is a good position between Manila and Davao...it is a lot more modern. We have not nice boulevard like Osmana...everyday the trafic light are shut off and they use trafic officer.

For some reason, I think it logged me in on my original account after my first post with the new one.

@Mysth Moving to Davao in a few months with 2 minor children to enroll for school. Davao is very safe, now parts of Mindanao are not. Just ask the very friendly locals on where not to go. Mind your business, don't argue, don't raise your voice, be respectful of people and culture, don't get drunk outside of your house. Go home after dark unless you know the area is safe. Be aware and you should be about as safe as anywhere.

@CLT2 In general the Philippines is a verry safe country, its not different as any other place in the world. Alle the stories you read about unsafety are bullshit, but you need to stand your ground as anywere else in the world. One thing you must remember, Filipinos have rememberance as an elephant. If you insult one, even if you dont even know you did, he maybe will sit on it for years but one day wake up, see you, and act uppon it. So better get some understanding about their culture, if not, you might regret that some day.

Stephanie Nakagawa

Hi I'm Steph, I'm new here, I'm interested in meeting up foreigners here.

Wish we all can be good friends and meet up soon if you guys want.

I'm interested in meeting new people and sharing my own ideas to all of you.

I'm Japanese here in Manila.

Moon Dog

Welcome to the forum Stephanie. You should have no problem meeting foreigners.

mikelaf

@CLT2 I live in Davao more than 10 years and it is very very safe. Cebu is more modern and as safe. It is true that some place in Mindanao are risky for white....but all the cities...Cagayan, Butuan, Bukidnon....are very safe. Never get any problem anywhere in Mindanao.

DocTony

Good day,

my name is Tony, but everyone calls me Doc, just one of the many things that sticks with you from the military. I’m a medically retired USN Hospital Corpsman looking to retire in the Philippines. Just kind of “done” with things here in the US. I’m a traveler, been there, done that kind of guy.  Thinking somewhere along the lines of Dumaguete or Valencia for now, with others on the list. Always been a bit of a nomad, and change doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

thanks

Doc

pnwcyclist

Welcome, Tony. Good choice, Valencia is a bit cooler, but you end up running into town for everything. Lots of expats in the area.

mugteck

Welcome Doc, sounds like you have  good ideas about living in the Philippines.   Feel free to ask questions, there are plenty people on here well versed in procedures and geography in the islands.

AlbertaDonuts

@DocTony  Nice to meet you Doc, Welcome to the group.  Lots of great information and discussion in the different topics.  A few of the people here have really given me some good info.  The Dumaguete area has many expats so that says something, and Valencia, near by is a bit cooler and more relaxed.  I have always enjoyed Dauin, which is just another 15 minutes down the road.  These areas and some on Cebu Island are ones I have considered settling in, although being outside the traffic and chaos of the larger cities (Duma fits here) have made places like Valencia or Dauin a more pleasant choice for me.

Wherever you choose, enjoy and welcome to the group.  Filipino people are some of the kindest you will find on earth.

@Julien

My first contact with the Phils became established in 2010. that year I visited and meet personal Hannah a student in Cebu that I supported through a non-profit org. located in Belgium. From one came the other and after some wanderings through Asia I arrived in Iloilo in August 2022, to probably stay here forever.

After I terminated my +35 years working in the research dept. of a company where I became involved in the creation of new *organic* molecules, it is time to enjoy my bonus time here. Besides that scientific work (creativity with logical limitations) my major passion became Arts (creativity without any limits). I would like to meet people ever their backgrounds to become more embedded here in a social network.

I have a broad interest in life in general and have been creative with life on my own.

Would be nice to become part of a network of friends
