Hi,

From calling bus company last week for a member the #70-3 is NOT running at the moment so it's one of the tour buses Kumho Samco, Giant Ibis etc (google HCMC to Moc Bai) or assisted tour van @ the moment.

Most leave from D1 area drop off at the border and you have to wait for return bus coming from PP or if tour assisted van, leave 7:20 approx arrive border 10 approx & they wait and return at a set time (around 12 noon) get back to HCMC mid afternoon (3-4pm)

Depending on when in Feb it MAY be nearly as cheap to fly to Bangkok taking into account Nha Trang to HCMC then Moc Bai costs.

Thai AirAsia currently has "some" NON-STOP, ROUND TRIP flights listed for CXR - DMK - CXR (Cam Rhan - Bangkok/Don Mueang International Airport - Cam Rhan) at $124.00 USD, depending on your date(s) and if you do same day turnaround OR hang out there for awhile.

Of course if you (OP) have a specific need or desire to travel to Mộc Bài, go for it.

With train 850k+ each way and assisted van 750k - 2.9mill seems a lot less hassle, even using cheap flight from Nha Trang to HCMC @612k - going direct to Bangkok seems a lot less messing around.

I have 2 friends planning a border run on 8 February from D1. They have their VN evisas.

They would like to take a limousine van to the border and back.

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You can also use the 12go website to look at transportation options. They cover all the methods to go. You can book tickets with them too. I do this for bus rides here in Cambodia a lot and to plan travels. Very handy site.

Just in case they haven't thought of this:

2 people can split the cost of a private car with the ability to depart when they want and stop for a break whenever they want.

That was costing about ₫1,600,000 VNĐ round trip in July & August of last year, so approximately ₫800,000 VNĐ per person.

Thanks OB, I will pass it on.

@honem

honem, please let us know which option your people decide on, and how their experience was.

Would be greatly appreciated.

honem

Ok, will do.

@honem

My friends went with I**Viet 9 seater van on Thursday. The van left at 7.20am, arrived at Moc Bai at 10.00, left at 11.00 and was back at the HCMC depot at 1.30.

The cost was 720,000d each. No tea money.

A fellow traveller who had done the run before guided them through the process. Being their first time it was slightly stressful but painless.

@honem

And thank you very much for that report, honem!

Sounds like all went well for your friends, and should they do another border run, no doubt they'll be less apprehensive.

Does anyone know if the 703 bus from HCMC to Moc Bai is running again?
