Hi,

I cant seem to find a recent thread for appeals to MoM. Could someone point me to it please?

My top 10 global consultancy applied for an EP for me to move from UK to Singapore office. They seem to have ticked all the requirements (advertised locally, offered market salary 10000 SDG monthly etc,). I have an MSc from UK university and 20 year’s experience as project manager. My age is 50.

still the EP was refused with reason being “This candidate does not meet the qualifying criteria (which includes salary, qualifications and experience) for an Employment Pass.”

they appealed with a detailed covering letter, and thats rejected too with the same reason.

Its hard to decipher the reason as with my BSc & MSc from UK, 20 years experience and 10000 SDG, i am not sure what else is missing!

I don't want to feel its my age, gender or ethnicity! But reading a few other forums, there was a suggestion of MOM expectation of higher salary for higher age, preference for local people for higher paid jobs.

Any advise on what to do next would be much appreciated

still the EP was refused with reason being “This candidate does not meet the qualifying criteria (which includes salary, qualifications and experience) for an Employment Pass.”

If your qualifications and experience are beyond doubt, the rejection reason must be the salary.

According to MoM (https://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permi … ligibility), the minimum salary to qualify for an EP is currently above S$8400/month in your case - or S$9300/month in the financial industry. This is just double of a fresh graduate pay. In fact, the threshold can be much higher depending on your education, work experience and hierarchy level of the job.

Your age and ethnicity probably play only a minor role, although you are not in the focus group of foreigners Singapore wants to attract.

Sha-Kas

Thanks @beppi

which are the ethnicities Singapore wants to attract?

10000 SDG is a decent salary for the role, especially compared to UK salaries and cost of living! so basically, if you are 45 years+ you can only get EP for jobs with very high salary!

isnt that age discrimination?

beppi

@Sha-Kas The minimum salary threshold goes up with age, education and work experience - in line with market norms of salary for the intended job. This way, the authorities want to prevent foreigners undercutting the local pay structure. Salary levels and living costs in your home country play no role in this.

What counts as discrimination in Singapore and what not is defined by the Singapore authorities, not you. They obviously think this is o.k.

Sha-Kas

I get that @beppi

what i am trying to understand is for the same job, if 2 foreign candidates have same education  (degree) and experience (i.e. 10 years) but one is 35 and the other 52 - does MOM expects the employer to offer the 52 year old a higher salary than 35 year old, in order to get the EP!
