Hi

We are looking to move to Thailand on a year retirement visa from the UK and want to know can we book a one way flight with relevant paperwork?

Would we be better to use an Agent for this move or is it easy enough for us to do ourselves, we have contacted the Thai embassy who have gave us the link for our visas and the list of requirements.

Is the police clearance check the same as a DBS/CRB?

Do we just apply direct to our doctors for our health screening?

If we are better to use an agent can anyone recommend one as worried about scammers!

We are aware of the financial requirements!

Thanks

Do not apply for an O-A Long Stay Visa. The O-A is a visa that most expats tried to get rid of last year because of the mandatory health insurance. Late last year thai authorities increased the cover to 3 million baht per year. Don't start by making a big mistake and waste money for nothing. You can read about it here at expat.com or Google it. If your plan is staying in Thailand long term as retirees, the visa you should go for is the Non-immigrant O, which you apply for in Thailand at the local immigration office.

@Leeds forever! Thank you for that advice so would we apply for the 90 day visa then?

and would we need to have a return flight  even though we want to stay in Thailand, I keep reading that if we don't have the return flight or onward travel to another country booked then immigration may not let us enter the country

If arriving on a 90 days Non-immigrant O based on retirement, you won't need a return ticket. No mandatory health insurance and medical check is needed. If you want an insurance when you're here, you can pick one with a cover that suits your needs. There are many insurance companies. I'm with Pacific Cross. They are located in BKK and they have of course a website.

As far as I know, anyone can arrive with a one way ticket to Thailand. Every foreigner has time limitations and must leave before their time limit has expired, Some people may choose to leave by foot.

As for Vietnam, they require a return ticket.

Not entirely correct. When applying for a 60 days tourist visa you must show evidence of either a paid return ticket or a forwarding ticket. And, immigration has the right to ask for evidence of a return ticket or forwarding ticket when arriving on a visa exempt.

Ahhh. I wasn’t thinking about a visa. I was simply thinking about arriving and staying 30 days without a visa.

I appreciate the clarity.

It's actually 45 days now. Officially until the end of the month, but it will most likely get extended.

@Leeds forever! I appreciate the great info you supply to people on here, many thanks. I mentioned a few months ago I would relocate retire in Thailand in July / Aug. from Australia. C/link will continue my aged pension, sorted a money transfer company.def will apply for the O visa here,as you mentioned no insurance needed. Although when I downloaded the form it had insurance on it. Hopefully I can ignore it. Have a great day in LOS

I said no mandatory health insurance when applying for the 90 days Non-immigrant O Visa or the annual extension at the local immigration office in Thailand. Be sure that you downloaded the correct form, the one for the O not the O-A. The insurance they refer to might be the one everybody needed during the pandemic. In your case it only needs to cover 90 days. In some countries,Thai embassies and consulates seems to be slower than others when it comes to official changes in requirements.

Heres a fyi for yas, if your shipping things over  wait for your retirement visa before you ship them. When you recieve the shipment, theres no duty charged for retiree's. just 1 time and one time only I gather even if its a car (used) theres no duty charged. Good luck....

Your info is not correct. Free shipping/duty free for "personal belongings" (even when used) for retirees or expats with a wp doesn't exist anymore. Those benefits were cancelled many years ago.
