Using Yuan (CNY) in Cambodia

Post new topic

zeubie

Hi there,

I will be visiting Cambodia in May and I am really looking forward to the trip.  Last time I was there was in 2015, so I am sure things have changed a lot.

Prior to the pandemic, I visited Mainland China and acquired some Chinese Yuan (CNY).  Upon returning home to Canada, I had some CNY leftover so I kept it for future trips.  Then Covid happened and no more traveling for a while.  That plus I have no immediate plans to visit China.

I know that Cambodia has a reasonably close relationship with China and I was wondering if it is possible to use CNY in Cambodia?  I know the Riel is the official currency (with the US dollar being the secondary), but I would like to avoid changing my CNY if possible.

Thank you in advance for any insight/advice you can provide.

All the best.

Hi !

Welcome back.

Of coz, CNY is exchangeable in Cambodia, but to spend it directly, you can find some merchants in chinese stores or restaurants, they are flexible, it's only question of communication. 1f923.svg

Thank you for your reply.   I do speak Mandarin (but I am not Chinese) as I worked in China for several years prior to Covid.  If I can't use it directly then I will convert my CNY to USD once I am back in Cambodia.

Take care, thanks again for your help!
