Drivers license

Post new topic

Guestposter822

About 8 years ago (on a 3 month tourist visa) I handed my Australian drivers license and $100 to an agent and I received a direct transferral to a Vietnamese drivers licence back (plus my Aust license).

Is it still possible to do this now or do you have to go for tests and have a longer visa ?

Thanks

I just went through this. If you have a car and motorbike license in Australia then you can go to the license center in D3 (assuming Saigon) and get the license converted. It doesnt cost much but takes about 10 days to get it back. You have to arrive with your visa and a notorized translated version of your license.

If your australian license is ONLY for a car and no motorbike and you want the vietnam A1 license you must first convert your license to the B1 car license and then get your health check and then apply for the driving test. You dont need to take the written test but you will want to practice a few times on the driving test. I think its harder than it looks for most people even if you have been riding for a long time. I would say the entire process took me about 2 months but could probably be done in a month and a half. Once I passed my driving test to get it took a whole month just to get the license in hand.

You dont NEED an agent but I will say it is a lot easier. Depends on if you value time or money spent. Personally I value my time a little more than the agent fee but it depends on the person.

As far as I know your Vietnamese licence is based on the date your country licence expires or the date your Vietnamese visa or TRC expires, which ever comes first. So if you are on the 1 month e visa you can forget it!

@goodolboy Yeah that is correct. I dont think they will even bother if you have less than 3 month visa.

Great answer @jrharvey for someone on a longer-term visa

I'm virtually certain that @goodolboy is correct in his clarification.

From everything Panda has been posting about plans for being here on the longest tourist visa possible, it's doubtful it's going to work for him, but who knows what magic the right agent can work?

About 8 years ago my visa didn't come into it. They just gave me a Vietnamese visa which expired when my Australian license expired. Enough dollars can get it done...

3 Different sources (people who assist in getting a licence) You need more than 3 months visa and also the same on home licence/passport.

Makes sense, by the time you step in country, get your paperwork/agent sorted and go in to hand over completed docs you only have a couple of weeks left of your 30 day visa/licence by the time it's in your hand..
