Hi everyone... After recently shipping my Dog from the UAE to Fiji I am now finding how difficult it is to find any kind of boarding facility here in Fiji?
1) If anyone needs any information on shipping your pets in - drop me an email - I have direct contacts for all parts of the process! I thought about changing my Dog's name to 'Life Savings' - but it's aweseome he is here with me..
2) Boarding facilities? I need to leave the country to renew my visa and my Dog needs somewhere to stay (being a bit of a handful with way too much energy). Does anybody have any ideas?
- Just an FYI - for those people shipping pets in for a period of time. Fiji doesn't give out Rabies vaccinations unless your Dog is leaving the country - so, if you bring him or her in on the PETS scheme or something similar - you will have to apply for the vaccine, go through the RNATT blood tests AGAIN and wait another 6 months before you can take your Dog out.
- Make sure you take your Dog to the vets immediately on arrival to get him/her treated for heartworm. Heartworm wasn't a problem in the UAE so I picked up late on that one. All other vaccinations are given out OK.
Thanks....

You may have seen my earlier posts when we were making enquiries about bringing our dogs to Fiji. We ended up deciding to leave them with our children in Australia for a variety of reasons, particularly the costs of returning to Australia when (and if) we do so. Glad to hear that you have persevered and managed to get your dog over here.
Regarding boarding kennels, I may have a suggestion if you have not had any joy. My wife an I rent a secured house with our own backyard and good fencing in Nasese just back from the seawall. We could consider pet-sitting your dog while you are away as we do miss having our dogs. They are border collies and are also quite full of energy so we're used to that. Not sure what the situation is in Beqa but there are quite a few dogs in our neighbourhood in varying degrees of care so we'd have to be careful about the socialising. I am a surfer (awaiting arrival of my boards) and am also keen to get into the water, and to carry out a dive course so we may be able to come to some sort of arrangement? Maybe worth thinking about.
Cheers and vinaka

Bula Marty,
I was just wondering if your offer would still be available for early next year? We are heading back to the UK for a well overdue visit to family and friends and will be gone for 6 weeks. We work at a resort and would definitely be able to work out something for both surfing and diving for the both of you if you would consider that? I really don't want to put him in the vets kennels again - although they are great people, the dog is just kept in a cage all day
Let me know if this is something we could work on!

We are in the same situation and generally struggle with this too. It would be great if there was a decent kenneling place here. We have a german sheperd that we hate leaving as when we come back her condition is very poor and it takes us time to build her back up. We also have to leave twice a year for 3 weeks at a time and a pet sitting arrangement could be an option for us, would love to talk to people who are in the same situation.
From our side we have a large property that is secure and high walled and we look after our dog really well, we excercise her daily, feed her the best of food - a balanced consistent diet, keep her well groomed and give her all the care she needs.

Hello! Knowing the situation for boarding dogs is abismal here in Suva and having friends with dogs faced with the problem of NO decent facility to board their animal while away, I have decided to team up with my housekeeper and offer to look after dogs here at my house. There is a big back yard with a secure fence, which is cared for by a gardener, and many areas for repite from the sun. If you are in need of something while you are away, please contact me and I will arrange for you to view the house and yard and meet the two of us. Perhaps this could work for you! I have lived with dogs my whole life, and truly miss my 'pals' back home with my son. And Elizabeth is caring, hard working, and motivated.
Hi gaiaPatrice,
How are you fixed for mid July to mid August? I am heading home for a month (the UK) and my dog, Dogg definitely needs somewhere to stay. Let me know if you would be available to do this as it would help me out a great deal
Hope to hear from you...
Hi can you help we are looking to move to Fiji in early April this year with our pet to follow later in the year due to vaccinations etc. Can you help as I am trying to discover how much I will be charged to put the dog in quarantine for 30 days.
Many thanks
Nigel
Ps if you have any tips it would be very much appreciated if you could share these with me
