Any city is doable eith 4000 usd but İstanbul will be more expensive than other cities.

I recently moved to Eskisehir from Washington, DC and we like it very much. Our income is about the same as yours, but we are retired. And now we can actually save money! Plus, Eskisehir has three universities, several sports centers, lots of great shopping and transportation options. The weather here is fantastic. Nice nightlife and dining, too.

Thank you to everyone for responding. Appreciate any information.

Hi,

I definately suggest you to live in İzmir.

It's cheaper than other big cities in Türkiye but much better  about social life, sport,  beaches, night life, dining etc.

I do live in İzmir,  feel free to ask for any info you need.

Have a Fun Trip,

ALTAN

@ALTAN COOL hi

I'm steve . You mentioned that you are living in izmir and it's a good city. I'm planning to move to Turkey soon and have no idea about where to live. I was thinking of maybe Antalya but I'm not sure. Some say it has hot and humid summers.  I'm a sigle dad with 5 and 3 year olds. I need somewhere with good schools as well as good moderate weather all year long.  Any information will be greatly appreciated. Hope to hear from you soon.

Why to move to Turkey, single dad sounds challenging, I hope you have enough assets. Where are you from, no child support? Getting in Turkey will be challenging, apart from being a resident (buying or renting?)

Alanya (mahmutlar is convenient, but again getting an Ikamet might be a challenge)

Just wondering why Turkey, if you are Turkish it should be fine, if not you can be wating for challenges.

cdw057

@lenabkirk USD 4000 should be more than sufficient, especially if you own, with renting it is still fine, but uncertain (also with Ikamet)

Mushtaqkk

@lenabkirk hello. In 4000 USD, you can not only live but enjoy your life. For a family of 4, 3000 USD are enough including rent for a 2+1 or above apartment in Istanbul. Number of international schools are available where your kids can study in English medium. Second metropolitan city I can suggest is the beautiful city of Antalya along the sea coast though in summers it reaches 40°C. If you prefer a conservative lifestyle then Ankara the capital of Turkey may be better. If you have time, I would suggest spend at least a week at each location to get a feeling.

Hi, İzmir is one the best location to live with family. Climate is nice, very convenient to other major cities and etc. For detailed information you may get in touch with me.

I think you should consider Asian side of Istanbul (there are a lot of nice neighbourhoods) and Izmir.

Depends if you have work, but cash flow of USD 4000 per month should get you around everywhere in Turkey.

I have to say Numbeo (even if lagging behind from time to time) gives a very good indication; in general Turkey is a good country to live

-Cheap

-Low crime

-Health care, good I think, but nobody wants to be in a hospital (Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, even Luxembourg) is no pleasure

-Cigarettes are cheap (I smoke 3 packages per day)

Your best bet either İzmir and Eskisehir. Your son will like it. For teenagers I'd say Eskisehir which is safer than İzmir. İzmir's proximity to seaside town of Cesme and ferry to Greek islands for grocery shopping at least once a month pleasing. Athens used to be pretty cheap to live but language barrier makes you miserable. Eskisehir has a few annoying problems like public dogs everywhere and fighter jets thundering to wake you up every morning 10:15No wonder President Biden not giving F16s to Turks.

You may want to write a letter to the White House opposing sales of fighter jets, too. San Antonio&Eskisehir both similar military city USA and River walk but Eskisehir has no good restaurants unlike İzmir. I still miss San Antonio. Eskisehir is small and adequate public transportation is plus. İzmir has of course way better Mass transportation.

Rentals cheap If you need to drive. İzmir has U. S. Consulate but Eskisehir 2 hours away from Turkish Capital & Embassy. Americans live mostly İstanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya.

$4000 is more than enough in Eskisehir. You can live like royals

One buck being 25.5 TL When you wake up 26 TL like license Plate of city 26.Eskisehir is modern and very sexy city for a bachelor. I go out $50 night

$1500 for month and bevy of women

But not like San Antonio or Atlanta
