Cost of fencing

Hi guys, I'm still trying to price the cost of a move to Bulgaria and one of things that has cost me quite a lot of money in France, is the fencing. I fitted it all myself and I shopped about for the best deals, but it still me around 2k euros. The problem I have is a Hugo. Had I known before I adopted him that he was an escape artist, I might have called him Houdini.

My current fencing is around 1.5m high. He can't jump over it, because he's too heavy, but if there's something interesting on the other side, like a deer, or a hedgehog, he will throw himself onto it, in the hope that it will give way under his weight. If that fails, he'll dig underneath it. As I'm likely to need to fence a sizable area, this could get very costly, so if anyone has any idea of the cost of dog proof fencing, please give me a clue. Cheers.

Without the size of the garden or land that you might obtain, it's impossible to give a total cost.  However you can obtain fencing panels, posts and supports from Praktiker DIY at the following prices...

Metal fencing panels 1.5m x 2.5m 40 Leva (€20)

Wood panels from 60 Leva (€30) up to 200 Leva (€102.50)

Supports 45 Leva (€22.50) each

Posts 25 Leva (€12.50) each.

You would probably be able to find a fencing supplier, cheaper than Praktiker.

It might also be worth buying a property pre-fenced and adding to it if necessary.

@grumpyoldbird We have exactly the same problem and a low level paddock electric fence is the only effective deterrent to stop them digging under. A kit is around 150 Euros for a complete dog friendly kit.

Powley

Put chicken wire on bottom of fence then bury it under the grass about half meter to meter out then when he digs down will go down to wire, Hope it helps stopped my dogs

@cyberescue1 what posts are these for 25 bgn? Please do share. Currently my fencing projects are costing me more than the house rebuilds 😐

Anastasija_gust

Ask people there. Prices are cheap in cash not the big shops. We bought the fence and cocrete posts from one abandoned house. 500 bgn enough for 1.5 dekar.

grumpyoldbird

@Anastasija_gust I have no idea what a dekar is, but that's a good idea. Thank you.

grumpyoldbird

@Powley I have that here, but he eats through chicken wire.

Anastasija_gust

@grumpyoldbird 1000 m2 is 1 dekar

grumpyoldbird

@Anastasija_gust thank you 🙂
