PCR TESTS IN HOTELS

Post new topic

Ivo sonnenberg

I booked a plane to mainila beginning September. And once i payed it, i got a whole list of requirements of the hotel Among them it says, i should need a valid PCR test not oldder as 72 hours. Here in Switserland nobbody is testing nomore and the only place were it is done cost like 140 USD. Far more as the room will cost me, and since i will stay in more hotels  the PCR test will expire soon. However i am fully vaccinated and was reading even on govermentsites that persons above 15 years old, fully vaccinated dont need to have no test nomore. If thats the case, why would hotels make exemptions on that? Philippinian law says 15 year old and above dont need to be tested If fully vaccinated. Of course i have proof of my vaccinations , an international certificate and also a covid certificated wich can be scannend on my phone. What experiences have you guys all? Traveling in and out and staying in hotels to. You cannot have a test made everytime you change from hotel, that would be plain crazy. Some feedback please, thank you all.

Cherryann01

You do not need a PCR Test, maybe the list you got is old and the hotel are too lazy to update it. Two choice spring to mind.

  1. Contact the hotel to verify the info on the list.
  2. Find another hotel.

If you can get a full refund from the hotel, I would be inclined to take it and book another. If they cannot get the simple facts right then who knows what else they have got wrong. Breakfast included in the price, free use of swimming pool etc when they are not.

Ivo sonnenberg

@Cherryann01 Yes, thank you for your reply, i think there information is not updated. They have to stick to goverment law they cannot make their own laws, i would think. i called them a million times and i will keep doing so but they are to lazy to pick uo the phone. Its close to the airport and the next morning my plane will go to bohol. So if they dont let me in and if i cant find another hotel fast than i spent the night on the airport or even a ***house or massage pilar. After first demanding my money back of course. But its the Philippines, its better to never pay upfront. I made an exeption this time wich i always do wenn flying in, but with boots on the ground i act different, first go and see the accomodation in person. I am not gonna buy a 140 USD test here. I think in the philippines it will be cheaper. Its not that big a deal because i have a 17 hour flight, what i always do is taking e verry striong sleepingpil and ask the stewardesses wake me short for we land. Than have some coffee and you are good as new for the next 24 hours, your boddy and mind does not even know it has a jetlag. I always look if there are 4 chairs in a row empty during the flight and ask if i may use them, in most cases no problem, so you can realy lie down and sleep like a baby.

Please be aware the Manila is not exactly the best airport for finding some decent seating to get some sleep. I was there in May 22 and was approached by a woman who asked me if I needed a hotel for the night. I politely refused at first but when I realised that the seating was outside in the heat and on uncomfortable seating I changed my mind. I ended up in a cockroach infested dive which the woman had assured me was classed 3 star. Pick up and drop off back at the airport was included though, so one good thing. I was flying on to HCMC so maybe the domestic terminal is better, who knows.

Ivo sonnenberg

@Cherryann01 yes to get my plane to bohol i probably need the domestic terminal. Outsde at the back of that terminal if you cross a big street, there is a small place with shops and also massage and a hotel wich always is used by merely stewardesses. The girls staying there they make water your mouth. But they have no time for nothing they are bussy with makeup and ironning all their clothes for their next flight. But the hotel is futher good and cheap. I told them i was a pilot and got the best room. Hehehe.

If I had told the Front of Desk Staff at the roach infested hotel I stayed in that I was a tramp, I would have probably been given their best room but I think the difference would have been minimal. Such was the class of the clientele.

Ivo sonnenberg

@Cherryann01 That you find in most of the hotels in the philippines, bedbugs. if you come home directly wash all you have above 70 degrees celcius, and take a good long bath. Otherwise you import them in to your own bed. happened to me twice you end up with a long hard battle and buying new matrasses. i have learned my lessons, the diffence now is, i will have no more home here and stay in the Philippines indefinitly. Throw the dice, flip the coin, come what may.

You aren't?

bigpearl

What a load of crock. Simply register with e Travel online, you will get a QR code and done, no need for a PCR test if you have been vaccinated.

Only what we did to fly out and fly back in, simple.

Cheers, Steve.

OMO but I have been in hotels in the Philippines for 13 years and around the world for 40 years and never had roaches or bed bugs, perhaps it depends on the quality of hotel you stay in? Get what you pay for etc.

Cheers, Steve.

@bigpearl

There is alot of misunderstanding with bedbugs. The poshest of hotels can have them. Like you Steve I have never (consciously) been affected by them.

Ivo I did smile at your ruse upon checking into that hotel masquerading as a pilot. Do you have a passing resemblance to Leonardo Dicaprio by any chance? 1f923.svg

Ivo sonnenberg

@bigpearl Yes i fill in the eform 72 hours before leaving, that i know and will do so. Still its anoying that i cant reach the hotel end they dont answer emails either. Futher i just take my gamble i have my proof of vaccination an expensive test i will not get. It will however be  a nasty suprise if they dont let me in. I paid already. I booked over epedia maybe they can contact them.

Ivo sonnenberg

@Lotus Eater No i was 10 year younger than. But i am a convincing liar. And Philippinian people seem to think that we foreigners dont lie. For themselves within their culture its verry normal to lie. They even call them white lies. Those you may use to get money or food. Here in the west we would turn our backs on liars, there not its a daily normal thing.

Simply stay in a 4 or 5 star hotel consciously and never a problem, Learn'd that 10 years ago, hotel and ratings were great, 2 or 3 star from memory and while no bed bugs the breakfast sucked, smelly room, A/C and power went out most of the night and no Sorry sir for the power outage. 4/5 star hotels have large back up generators and I don't mind paying 50 to a hundred bucks a night extra for no bed bugs/roaches or sweating my guts out in a cheap hotel.

Cheers. Steve.

Ivo sonnenberg

@bigpearl maybe i had just bad luck, that can be. And indeed i did not lways had enough money to sleep in the most expensive hotels. I am not in to all that luxery also. I am just a plain guy keeping it simple.

Ivo when you say 'Domestic Terminal' be sure as to which one. The old 'domestic' terminal is now labelled T4. Depending on the airline you could be flying from T2,T3 or T4. T4 is a bugger to get to and our real estate friends would say it has 'character'1f602.svg

Last November I stayed at the Belmont hotel next to T3. They were short staffed in the hotel restaurant that evening but on check out was told that I can walk via the hotel car park behind and into an air conditioned enclosed cross walk over the highway(its called Runway Manila) and enter the terminal through a side security entrance. No queues. The lobby porter even wheeled my bag for me. Its not the cheapest airport hotel but its new and the rooms are plush with a decent bathroom and shower and no bedbugs! Just don't use the restaurant.

bigpearl

What hotel was that Lotus?

Cheers, Steve.

Lotus Eater

@bigpearl

The Belmont.

I'll have a look, T/Y lotus.

@Lotus Eater Yeah thats a good question wich is wich, its been 4 years since i was there, i fly with airasia from nino aquino international airport to tagbilaran, but it says nowere wich terminal i should go. Its not in the documentation and booking conformation. I will call those who sold me the ticket.

Lotus Eater

@Ivo sonnenberg

It’s confusing. Air Asia fly from both T3 & T4. T4 is domestic flights but I would double check with the airline. If it’s T4 you are in for a treat Ivo.

Look out for the sign on the wall that says ‘ No bomb jokes will be tolerated’ Priceless 😂

Ivo sonnenberg

@Lotus Eater Yes haha that i remember having seen that too. I also wenn i lived on palawan i always came across the same street, in it was a verry big hole, they had put a fence around it with a sign saying;

`This hole is gonna be fixed from  your taxpaying money!` It never got fixed, it was there all the 4 years that i was around and probably it is still not fixed. Several drunk motorbike riders endet up in there, they just put the fence back up and hung the sign up again.

Ivo sonnenberg

@Lotus Eater i found this..Manila, 24 April 2023 – AirAsia Philippines has announced its readiness to transfer all its domestic flights from NAIA terminals 3 and 4 to NAIA Terminal 2 beginning 1 July 2023 as part of the Manila International Airport Authority's (MIAA) schedule and terminal assignment rationalization (STAR) program.24.04.2023 Since i go in september that should already be in place. well we see it wenn we get there.

Lotus Eater

@Ivo sonnenberg

Don’t bank on it. Whatever happens be prepared for a delayed take off as I can see 50% of the passengers checking into the wrong terminal.

I’d be surprised if it was T2 as that has always been exclusively Philippine Airlines.

Never noticed any bed bugs or had any bites or itchiness or anything I could relate to bed bugs but the roaches were real. The hotel I stayed in in Manila on my arrival in the Philippines was I think called The Stone House Hotel, Pasay. Cheap, near the airport and the pictures on Booking.com certainly look better than the hotel but no roaches there.

After spending time in CDO with my ex and daughter and 3 days in Cebu with my ex, I had a flight from Cebu to HCMC via Manila. Long story short, airline changed the flight times and I had a choice to find a hotel for 6 or 7 hours in Manila or kip at the airport. I could not manage at the airport so there was an office with a woman who had approached me before asking if I wanted an hotel. Went back there after a short time and she booked the hotel, said it was 3 star but I cannot remember the name of the hotel and that was the hotel with the roaches.

Just out of interest, I looked at a room today for the Belmont Hotel on booking.com. The deals are much better

if you are a member so on 10 Oct 23 it is £60 per night for a Deluxe Queen Room with an option to purchase breakfast for an extra £14. The same room without breakfast if your not a member of booking. com is advertised at £105 for the night, Pays to sign up. Prices based on a room for 2 people but I find it is cheaper to book that way sometimes and if you contact the hotel later saying there will only be one person, they do not seem to mind or did not when I did the same thing before at the Waterfront Airport Hotel in Cebu.

Ivo sonnenberg

@Lotus Eater You are so right. What you need in the Phillippines is a lot of patience. Once i needed shoepolisch so i went looking for it, and i came into robbinson were it shoud be, i asked a girl, maam were kan i find the shoepolisch po? She got a schock and wenn i calmed her she called an other girl who got into schock to, at one point there were 7 girls looking for the shoepolisch and were it might should be? They knwew it was there, but were? Than they came up the idea to call the manager, that one joined our club we were 9 now. The manager was also a woman. We went true all the store and they looked all over, at one point i got tired and had to sit down on a bench. And than YES YES SIR SIR i found it!!! One of the girls found a little can of shoepolisch, and with her arm high in the sky she came ever so proud towards me, and wenn she was infront of me lowered her arm verry eloquent and gave me the shoepolisch as if it was a weddingring,

She smiled from ear to ear and the other girls even applauded here.

I looked down at the little can of shoepolisch, and than smiled myself,

you know why?

It was black i needed brown.

But i bought it anyway.

Cherryanne could you clarify the above please. Are you saying that the woman came with you to the hotel?

Just checked what I paid at the Belmont last November: £45 for a double including breakfast inc taxes with Agoda.com (but no female company1f923.svg) There is a fantastic roof top pool and bar area which overlooks the airport and runway.

No this was not the Belmont Hotel. I just had a quick check on booking.com to see the prices for that hotel using 10 Oct, a random date I put in.

Due to flight time amendments to my flights from Cebu to HCMC via Manila, I found myself with a long wait in Manila for my flight on to HCMC so when I came out of the terminal I was approached by a woman asking me if I needed a hotel for the night. At first I said no and went to find somewhere to stretch and get some rest at the airport. Unfortunately the seating was hard and outside the terminal building and it was hot and most was taken. The woman I found again in an office downstairs and she arranged a hotel with transport there and back to the airport the next day but she did not come with me. It was not the Belmont but the roach infested dump I referred to earlier.

Ivo sonnenberg

@Cherryann01 Thats a thing with cockroaches, everboddy finds them dirty noboddy seems to know why. if again you see a cockcroach go in front of it, stick out one finger and touch it, he will run of to a dark corner and give himself a good wash, Why? Because he thinks you are dirty!!!

Ivo sonnenberg

@Enzyte Bob You must learn things in life and from other cultures. In the philippines people lie all day long, here in the west we despice liars. But thats not the case in the philippines, if you get things done without that it cost you monney or you obtain something with lying noboddy desspice you, no your social status goes up. If a Filipina or Filipino can trick you out of your money, she is the queen or he is the king of town. So being there i just copied that, it comes in verry usefull. here it would not, but there it does. Just go with the cultural flow. Its just adapting to an other world. I think that is the smartest thing to do. If you cant beat the wolves, just join them. They dont expect a foreigner to do the same thing, once they understand you act the same as they do, your social status wil rise, you are not longer that dumm kano anymore, they call you kuja.
