Food (in restaurants and at home)

You must always search for Turkish butchers for lamp meat brother. In Budapest there are 3 butchers, you could find lamp easily and pricy as well.

Budapest for many is far away, where close to Keszthely? (Could be relevant for the future)

In Alanya(Turkey) we are happy, good quality, good price. Of course from time to time we miss pork meat, but lamb and beef are more then fine.

Budapest I think is a special case, we went there for passports and accountant, nothing else. Max once per year, certainly not going there to buy lamb.

I have to chime in on this topic. My family and I have visited Turkey 3 times, the first time in the summer of 2019, and our dining experiences have all been in Turkish restaurants, mostly traditional foods.  Our last two visits were month long road trips through the country. We intentionally seek only Turkish restaurants and since my heritage is Turkish, I am aware of the vast variety of foods and try to introduce them to my wife and son. Our favorite is the traditional Turkish restaurants serving 'sulu' dishes. We have had only one bad experience which was due to too much butter added to our meat dish which made it too heavy for us. I think it was called Balaban. I'll be in heaven when we can become expats in Turkey.

Here at home in Minneapolis, we eat out maybe 3 times a year because of the low nutritional value, mistrust in what happens in the kitchen, cost/value of restaurants.  For our meals at home, we use organic ingredients, making made from scratch dishes.  It is a lot of effort and time though.

@Gino_C No doubt about it, Turkish kitchen/restaurants are great and we do really, really appreciate. However focussing on only Turkish food is not so good (for me), eating 70/80 % is fine, but sometimes I would like to have something different. (Luckily my wife cooks very well as alternative that is fine).

Some ingredients in Turkey are difficult to find (good satay sauce, VERY sharp sauces), but in general nothing to complain.

In Alanya/Mahmutlar they can also cook very good Western Dishes (However this is not what I am looking for)

I agree variety is a necessity. I try seeking new foods here but as you know, generally American food mostly consists hamburgers, pizza, steak, fried chicken and pasta though there are lots of ethnic restaurant offerings. But as you know, we seek what we don't have which for my family and I is traditional Turkish food. There is a tremendous abundance of variety in Turkish food, though I would agree most restaurants in Turkey offer the same/similar dishes.
