Hi Everyone,

My wife and I are married. She is Moroccan, and I am a UK national of Moroccan descent. I am currently in the process of filling out my wife's spouse visa application so she can come to the UK. I have all the necessary documents to support our application, including our marriage certificate, financial evidence, accommodation evidence, entry in morocco records, our photos, statements of money transfer and purchases towards our weddings, written statements from ourselves family and friends, even video links of us vlogging in morocco and transcript whatsapp screenshots of all our calls and chats spanning our entire 3-year relationship.

My question is regarding the submission of screenshots from WhatsApp. What would be considered sufficient or substantial by the UK Home Office? How many screenshots did you guys submit, and what approach did you take? I would appreciate any guidance on what was deemed sufficient in your applications. Of course, providing the entire 3 years' worth of conversation is impossible, but they would likely require a timeline for each year. How should I document that? Would it be enough to submit 4 or 5 screenshots per month, including chat and call details? I'm looking for the right method of approach in terms of quantity and timing.

What did you guys do that worked for you? and was part of your successful application

If you could share your experiences and advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

I suggest you read the online guidance and follow it to the letter. The law merely requires the visa officer to ensure that you have a genuine relationship and have met each other before the wedding. The fact that you can provide these Whatsapp screenshots is helpful, but I doubt if the officer would actually look at them.

The visa agent my wife and I used to assist with her spouse visa application asked for a record of the Skype calls we had made to each other as evidence of our ongoing relationship, and because it was such a laborious process taking screen shots of every interaction, I limited it to just the most recent month. I was informed that this wasn’t enough!

In the end I had to take screen shots going back about seven months (the whole of 2023). There were 78 of them, all of which had to be converted from jpegs to pdf files and amalgamated into a single pdf file. It took ages and may be overkill, but it seems that the Home Office is at least as impressed by the quantity of the material you produce as its substance, and if that’s what it takes to bring my wife to the UK, so be it.
