According to my best legitimate info source, no.

Sorry to ask something not my biz, but really do you need a vietnamese license?...  I ask this because the exam is totally in Vietnamese and also the test drive, and you need a visa or trc for at least 1 year as a requitie prior to apply,

If you already have your license driver issued by your own country, you can easily homologate it without any exam and for the time of your visa; it cost around $60 and 1 hour at the office..  and of couse you can re-issue it as many times you want.

That works as long as your home license already has a motorcycle endorsement.  If not the procedure is not so simple.

@SteinNebraska  ok, in that case you are right to need the exam to get the vn-license. Unfortunally your visa is only up to 3 months. You must know the legal requisites is your visa (or residence card) must be for OVER 3 months.

For everybody else who is also checking this post: the legal keyword is RESIDING or WORKING....  thus, tourist or 5years-visa-exemption aren't eligible

@ajairon Thats not entirely true about the visa exemption unless there was a very recent policy change in the last few months. I am on a 5 year visa exemption and I was able to convert my US license to a B1 license. I then took my B1 license and used it to apply for the driving test (figure 8 only) and get my A1 license. I wouldnt say its easy but I got it done. It required some back and forth paperwork and actually scheduling a time for the test within the next few months was a little troublesome. I also had to get a health exam. Ended up hiring an agent mainly to do the scheduling of the exam because he got it in like a week vs a month. The whole process probably took a month and a half total maybe a little longer. I wouldnt recomend it for someone on a 3 month visa unless they stay a lot longer.

Also an interesting thing that happened with me was when i went to renew my A1 license after 6 months they actually gave me a lifetime unlimited license so I never have to renew again. I dont know if they made a mistake or if this is a new policy. I think they made a mistake but it worked out for me. Renewing the license isnt that bad but its just a waste of half a day sitting in the DMV waiting.
