My wife and are finally starting to get used to living in a small, isolated village on the south coast of Java in Banten province. Because of our isolation I would like to get things by online ordering.

Online sites like Shopee and Tokopedia don't seem to work like Amazon which I'm familiar with. Under each product there appears the name of a city. Does this mean the product is only available for delivery in that city? Finding my biggest "city", Malingping is probably going to be tough!

Can someone tell me how online ordering works here?

Thanks,

Bob & Sita,

Desa Sukamanah, Lebak Banten

We (or I should say my wife) orders from Tokopedia all the time. The city mentioned under the picture of the product is where the seller is located. On the left of the page you can also click to select the location of the seller, so if you live in Jakarta and click in the  box for Jakarta then you'll probably receive your purchase the same day. As I understand it, the sellers will send to anywhere in Indonesia. If you have queries then message them. Since you are in Banten then probably you should choose from sellers in Jakarta.

We usually check the number of that item tha the seller has sold before (the more the better) and see their rating and read some of their feedbacks, especially those who include photos. We also prefer to choose official stores which is at the top of the left side for items such as cameras, gopro, etc.

@wingrove60 Thank you for the feedback. I'm going to place a "test" order with Tokopedia to see how it works.

It appears that there are only two ways to pay, GoPay or Tokopedia card. I have a Rp account at the local branch of BRI (bank used my most in my village) with a debit card. It the Tokopedia card safe to apply for? GoPay seems to imply you need the Tokopedia card first.

Sorry for all the novice questions, but I'm still learning (one day my Bahasa will become useful too)!

No problem Bob/Sita,

You can pay on Tokopedia by any method - bank transfer, local debit card, credit card, GoPay, at Alfamart or Indomaret etc. My wife always uses my debit card when she buys stuff on Tokopedia. We have never owned a Tokopedia Card.

Yes good idea to buy something cheap and see how it goes.
