possible next step after IPA expiration and SP re-application

hi.

i'm a foreigner who applied to an internal singapore job opening in our company.

i passed so the singapore-side HR applied for S Pass.

i received my S Pass IPA last august.

i arrived in singapore 2 weeks ago on short term visit pass with the goals of doing the medical exam for S Pass and looking for a place to rent.

during my first day of work in the company, HR called me to say that they could not get the S Pass issued due to expiration of my IPA. HR advised me to go home (to my apartment here in SG) while the S Pass reapplication is still in process.

i applied to extend my short term visit pass just in case the S Pass application process will take more than 10 days. the short term visit pass extension was thankfully approved.

however, i'm very worried about my situation here in SG because i have not received yet my relocation allowance (it will be given during first pay day) and money is starting to run low.

i'm not sure when will i get the result of my S Pass reapplication.

since my first S Pass application (the one where I got my first S Pass IPA) was approved in principle, do you think it is highly likely that the S Pass reapplication will be approved as well?

also, i'm starting to lose trust in my current company because they were not able to monitor my IPA expiration date and failed to apply for IPA extension.

if you were in my shoes, would you consider applying to other companies here while waiting for the S Pass reapplication result?

hoping to get some insights.

thank you in advance to those who will reply.

Both you and the employer should have monitored the IPA validity. Arriving here without IPA (and on a visit visa instead) was a stupid mistake!

The new S-Pass application is likely to take as long as the first (and if the employer explains to MoM that it was their mistake, then the result is most likely approval).

The employer is NOT allowed to pay you for the period before the S-Pass is issued or give you a relocation allowance before that. If your money runs out, that's your private problem, as you are currently tourist here, not worker. If necessary, you should return to you country (which you MUST do anyway if the STVP runs out).

As for job search: Try to do it discreetly, because neither your employer nor the authorities would like it!

Edited to add: It is illegal to rent an apartment while on STVP. You and the landlord can be fined for this.

@beppi just to clarify, i arrived here while the IPA was still valid. Appreciate the insights.

hi @beppi, everyone.

just want to share that my S Pass reapplication has been approved today.

Applied: Oct 16, 2023

Approved : Oct 26, 2023 (8 business days after application. I considered Oct 17 as Day 1)

i would like to thank everyone in this forum for sharing their S Pass application experience. i felt comforted that i'm not alone in the "S Pass result waiting game" boat.
