Hi all,
Newbie on the Bulgaria forum? Don't know how to start?
This thread is for you
We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country,
or to tell us more on your expat projects in Bulgaria if you are planning to move there.
It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.
Welcome on board!
Hi all. James here. Currently in the UK. My wife and I are looking at relocation to Bulgaria, hopefully within 18 months or so. I've been researching for some 20 years on different locations and have only just realised Bulgaria is an option. We're hoping to establish a semi off grid homestead and pretty much live the good life.
Cheers James 🍻.
@jasmith837
Hi welcome to expat
Are you retired ? Or hoping to work ?
Hi Philip. We will be retired. Still in our 50's but would like to
make the move and have everything in place while it's easier for us.
My wife was born and raised on a farm, so the little homestead we're planning won't be a problem. I will basically be providing manual labour.
Cheers James 🍻.

Hello Expats!
My name is Albena! I am originally from Bulgaria and have lived in the United States since 1991 when I was just eight years old. I have visited Bulgaria on and off over the past twenty some years and will be moving back to live in Sofia this May of 2024. Though familiar, Bulgaria is a new place for me having left as a child and returning to live there with my own family in my early forties! I am hoping to connect with English speaking expats and to establish new friendships and social supports. Looking for recommendations for a pediatrician for my two year old son and a family general practitioner for myself and my spouse.
Nice to meet everyone!
Albena
Hi Everyone,
My self and my wife have taken the decision to relocate to Bulgaria. Our plan is to purchase a property with 2-5 acres of land in a rural setting more than likely in the north of the country.
We are looking at making this move in 3-5 years. We will be off grid and mostly self sufficient.
Looking forward to being on the forum and connecting with people like ourselves and ex pats who have already made the move
Ian & Stacey

@jasmith837 You seem to be in the same mind set as me, please keep us up to speed with your thoughts & progress.......... After visiting BG ( Sofia & Plovdiv.) & doing some research I'm leaning towards the Burgas area & hope to find a nice village with shop/bar etc & find somewhere with a big garden for growing veg & maybe keeping at least chickens & would even consider sheep/goats.
@Julien Another n00b here looking at relocating to BG & maybe l've even narrowed it down to the Burgas area.
I'm visiting BG again after an initial visit to Sofia & Plovdiv last year & although my plane lands in Sofia where l will spend a couple of days, l am going to rent a car or travel by bus/train across country & spend a couple of weeks hopefully finding the ideal property in a nice village or town in the Burgas region to suit my needs.

@BritMickabroad
I hope you find the right place, Mick!
Hi all.
My wife and I moved here in 2007.
We sold up from the UK lock stock and barrel stuck everything in investments and hoped to live off that until our pensions kicked in.
Well we made it, my UK pension has just kicked in and my wife's was last year, do not think we would have made it in another country.
Been lots of ups and downs, and the finance markets being very bad over that time meant we spent a lot of our savings, but now finance wise we can relax and enjoy this country to its fullest
@roywebb58
Fab that it all worked out! It must have been a big relief to get your pension at last.
@GuestPoster1102
ho Victor, were in Canada are you from and where in BD are planning to move to? A fellow Canadian here, also seriously considering BG.

You will not get a response from them as they are no longer members of the website.
You are free to start a new topic with questions you may have.
tnx @SimCityAT, will do when closer to that decision,am the point of reading and researching before jumping for a few months of living and renting before 100% committing.
@janemulberry
Thanks well it would be if the UK pension service had paid me.
Due on 16th of January and next payment was to be 13th Feb, still waiting

@Robertgreen93958
There are plenty of expats in the Pavlikeni area, but I've been told that some villages are better than others. You might get more info by starting a new thread naming the village the house is in, so people familiar with the area can reply.
Thank you Jane
Unfortunately the house I was looking at in Pavlikeni has been sold. But I'm on the look out again in the same area.
Welcome Diarmuid I'm new to the forum too and looking to move to Bulgaria very soon
