Hi,

Can I suggest that before you visit you decide on the landscape you prefer? Italy is a very diverse country, mountains, lakes, seas, valleys and plains, it makes no sense to stay in an area where you will feel hemmed in by mountains or exposed on a plain for instance. Then select the geographical area that matches you interest. Also property design and type vary according to location from northern chalet styles, to Tuscan farmhouses, Liberty villas and southern truli's, what will suit you?

The nearer the ''spine'' of Italy the more likely to encounter earthquake activity, the south is much hotter then the north but if you like skiing then that's your area of consideration. Tuscany is more expensive than Umbria and major cities and tourist centres are even more costly both in purchasing but also local taxes to consider. Do you want a quieter life or d you want to be near a hub of social life? Do you ant to work or are you retiring? Also note that road and rail links run north to south  traversing east to west is not so simple.

Lastly long rentals are difficult to find as the laws differ to short lets (holidays) the tenant of a longer rental (usually 24 months minimum) has rights that holiday lets don't and landlords make much more on short weekly rentals than long term. Usually long term renters take on the services in their name rather then trusting the landlord to pay and advise the correct amount owed and telephone, electric, gas and water contracts are for 2 years minimum usually. You might consider house sitting or even as ''workaway'' as an option to get the feel and explore an area while having a roof over your head and none of the contractual complications.

I hope this will help define what you are looking for and where. Good luck.

@Julien Hi, replying to this topic because it is exactly what I have been searching for. My name is Raoul and I am currently investigating options to move to Italy. It would of course be great if I could apply for a job already before even being there. Currently I am working as a Project Purchaser after completing my studies in Logistics Management 2 years ago. Poi ho fatto tre corsi in la lingue Italiano e adesso parlo un po d italiano (Livello A2).  Any open vacancies in that area would be wonderful.  If there is someone on this page who has experience in this, please tell me about your experiences. All advise is welcome!

Grazie mille,

Raoul

Hi there I am new to this,

At the moment I am living in South Africa and looking to move to Bari.

Right at the beginning of this immigration journey. One advantage is I have an Italian passport so will not need a visa.

Still have no idea where to start though... so any advise would be great 1f60a.svg

Hi,

We are Krista and Chris, two Canadians moving to Rome for a 2-3 year work assignment. We are excited, and a little daunted, to be going on this adventure.

We have pets who will make the journey with us,  they will quickly have to learn to listen in two languages :) Looking forward to making new connections and landing (note hopeful phrasing) on our feet in a great rental .

We are looking to possibly move to Lecce for a quiet healthier life.  We are retired and do not need a job.  We are looking to Lecce because we love the beachs, and slower pace of life with fresh vegetables and foods.  We are easy to get along with and have two small dogs.  Also really like the older buildings with high ceilings, stone work, and character.  Ciao!

And recently joined expat.com to connect myself with like-minded people all over Italy!

A little about me: I have experience both in teaching and community work, and I love learning new languages and exploring different cultures. I am going to take into the Italian way of living, practicing the language, and getting familiar with the local lifestyle.

Any tips on the integration into Italian life, seeking local communities, or anything about daily life, I would very much appreciate. I am quite excited to connect with new people and share experiences with those who have gone through what I went through.

I look forward to sharing diverse topics with all of you and being a part of this great community of support.

Best regards,

Hicham Bajjou
