hi

i am seeking solutions to live/work in Italy at the moment,  i am hoping to hear some sage advice about the paperwork side of things? visas/occupational opportunities/pitfalls

i have australian citizenship (no dual uk etc)

any knowledge would be greatly appreciated, even if it is non specific to italy... (i would move to another country close to italy if it is my only option)

p.s. if you know anything about claiming dual citizenship (or something similar) for the uk when the english heritage is generations &generations back that could also be of use

-> also do you know of any books for people in my situation (preferably australian)

-> also is TEFL/TESOL a viable option? are there realistic teaching opportunities?

Hi there,
I am a fellow Aussie and was contacted an expat living in Italy---if you search for a person on here with the name 'petallowry' not sure how to find her but she actually has a business helping people immigrate to Italy and knows a lot about ways to live your dream!!
I'm sure she'd bbe able to help you!
Good luck!!

hey thanks a lot skara... trouble for me is that I don't have a university degree. am not yet fluent in italiano. i have a serious relationship in milan, and am willing to do anything to move there. that's about all i can offer the country :P my willingness to do anything. hell they can exploit me for all i care. i just need to be there.

I have heard from one source you need a university degree to claim a work permit in EU...

I was considering getting Cert IV in TESOL (teaching english as a second language) which costs about $3000 but without a degree it is seemingly useless?

so I was also looking at possibilities in applying for an italian student visa/student residency

the catch is that the study would be via correspondence with an Australian university...

is it possible to obtain an italian student visa/student residency in this situation?

skara

I think that tesol could be a go but the other option would be to enrol in an Italian language course in Italy!  it will buy you some time and the it would be easier to teach English with a basic understanding of Italian--I suggest you find the lady I mentioned as she imigrated to Italy 2 years ago and now has a business helping people get residency etc!!

cuore

i have requested contact with her... do you happen to know the name of her business as I might be able to contact her that way, a little faster

thanks so much :)

skara

Maybe I could give her your email if you are ok with that? She's on my page...conversations...so it may be possible to link into that but I am a little techno challenged so not sure how it all works!! If you give me your email address I could send through a message to her page? Would that work?
I've been away so you may have already made contact?

hey i'll give it to you but not on the public board... i'll request contact :)

skara

I'm waiting to see if I can get the business email...I'll let you know if it comes...meanwhile I have another contact in Italy/Milan. I'll ask them--they are also from Australia. See how I go!
