Forgive me if there is a topic on this I searched.

Does anyone know the exact DR agency name and location other than the airport to pay an overstay fee GREATER than 12 months and departing within the next 2 weeks.

I went to Malecón Central and as normal bounced from DGM, Office of Ministery and told to go yo the Princple Migration office

@CHRISTOPHER DAVID56 . I was looking at opening a bank account and an executive with Banco Santa Cruz told me that you could pay at Banreservas.  It is after all a state owned entity with an interest in expat banking services. I never followed up. I apologize in advance for taking a guess. Maybe someone here can confirm.

I have clients who prepaid the overstay fine and then had to pay again at the airport as the agent refused to accept their proof of payment.

My question is why go through the hassle of prepaying?

I will ask Lishali where this is paid.

UncleBuck

Pay at the gate, why create more work for yourself?  And as Planner says, they often don't accept your receipt of either paying elsewhere, or even having submitted residency renewal.

planner

So the place to go to pay is immigration.

Lishali also knows people who had to pay at the airport anyway as well!

I was considering paying my overstay in advance (4 month trip) so that I am legally there when considering renting a vehicle and driving ...

There is much discussion about this. Prepaying the overstay does NOT make you legal. It's an administrative workaround and not a legal stay!

I once contacted them here to prepay but as said above, its cheaper and less trouble to just pay at the airport.   If you want to stay longer than 30 days, here they ask you to pay for a medical with a doctor and then you have to also provide financial documents.  None of that is required when you simply pay at the airport.

In Punta Cana, when you exit through the automated gates, it flags you and a red light and alarms goes off.  Someone will come and point you to a new line and you simply pay the fee.   This has been my experience but never with an overstay greater than 12 months.

Best of luck Christopher David.

To clarify that extension gives a total of 120 days only.

And yes it seems like a lot of extra trouble if you aren't getting any real benefit. It does not make you "legal"

UncleBuck

If it is an "extension" of the tourist visa, which makes you legal for 30 days, would the extension of 90 more days not still make you legal?  Seems that is the point of the extension, no?

No it's a prepayment of the fine. It's not a new visa.

However, there are lots of arguments over this.  Ask 10 lawyers you get different answers. Ask an insurance executive and they are clearer.  It's a prepayment of an overstay fee and they can refuse to pay from an accident!  This is as it applies to a license being legal or not due to status here being legal or not!

So, to summarize, it's not clear!  After 30 days you take your chances.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

They always  ask @ the airport checking in ” how long have you stayed , if more then 30 days you have to go to go to the first door on the right after your bags went through the x-ray machine and pay there ….cash or card

Tippj

Thats in the puerto plata airport

I just left STI last week.  I was there from Oct 2 - Jan 10 so a little over 3 months.  I just payed the fee at the airport which was 5600 DOP.  They even had a paper at the window where I paid that listed all the fees for the days stayed.  I just can't figure out how to attach a photo in this thread.

You are charged from the day of your entry.

Am I able to pay my overstay fee and then open a bank account. I have to pick up a friend at the airport so I thought that I would pay my fee. I don't have plans to leave in the next few months. Will paying the overstay fee allow me to open a bank or do I have to leave the country and return with a stamp in my passport to show the bank?

UncleBuck

@LT American  You are paying a fine, for all intents and purposes, so that doesn't make over-staying "legal".  You are still breaking the law, so driving, insurance, and opening a bank account should all be off the table.  But as with everything here, it depends.

UncleBuck

@LT American  The other issue with that, is you would need to be leaving the island after paying.  You can't pay at the airport and then walk out to your car and leave.

LT American

I imagine  I could just leave . 😂

planner

You need an entry stamp and cannot get that by paying..
