Hi again expats,

I have a question. Does anyone of you have a PO Box in Bulgaria?

And if so what is your experience with it? ( cost, reliability etc.)

gwynj

I rarely get any post in Bulgaria... so a post box would be a bit excessive. :-)

Nearly everything is online, or delivered by courier (to your hand, or to the nearest office, if you prefer).

Hi we just cancelled ours as got little post couldnt see the point but used to cost us 60 lev or around that mark. Concerning reliability we had some post that never turned up despite them confirming it had been held in sofia but despite chasing it never arrived so post here i would say is not safe or reliable. Use a courier instead like everyone here seems to do rgds ozzy

TonyFF

courier like what UPS, Fedex, DHL??

Ozzy183a

Hi, yes but many use Ekont and speedy in bulgaria rgds ozzy

Jules999

@TonyFF

Yes DHL is a good one, as Speedy ( one of courier services here ) are one of their partners, which should make the delivery seamless.

TonyFF

I will be needing to occasionally forward mail from the US- for 1/2 kg mail it costs $220 with UPS!!!!!

I find this ridiculous and am searching for alternative options.  So I need good, low cost international carrier:)

Do you know of any?

@TonyFF I too had a PO b9x, but got rid of it, as. very little post.

The postal system in Bulgaria is incredibly slow and coupled with other countries being slow, waiting times are between 10 and 42 days!  I get one letter per month from the UK and it takes 30 days to arrive.

I don't know what area you're in Tony, but in Varna we have an independent courier called A1POST.BG, that subcontract to the likes of DHL, FedEx etc.,  they're much cheaper than going direct.   I send antibiotics to my Aunt in the UK and the Express service costs 63 Leva (€32) and arrives in 48 hours.  If you're not near Varna, there will probably be an independent courier agent near you.

Couriers are the only realistic way in Bulgaria and within the country Econt (national recognised courier) and Speedy (part of DPD group) are the way to send virtually everything.

Does anyone use Amazon in Bulgaria? I heard that people use those Bulgarian couriers  to deliver Amazon shipments.

Any info on that???

grahamstark1

@TonyFF

Yes i use Amazon DE and have it sent with Prime to GGBG.bg who then courier every week to Bulgaria from Berlin. Considerably cheaper and quicker than Amazon delivery.

TonyFF

@grahamstark1

fantastic thank you

I have US Amazon I wonder if I need to change it to Germany.

@TonyFF

You should be able to use the same log-in details as Amazon UK to log into De. Then add the address you want to use as a secondary address. The transport company Graham mentioned also does transfers from the UK, but I think the transport works out cheaper and avoids any import duty issues ordering from the German Amazon. Though I have been surprised to see that prices can be way more expensive for the same items there!

Mine costs 46 leva per year.

@mccallum

not bad:)
