Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in Cologne ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed?
What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in Cologne?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Hi, I'm a German in Cologne and can give you all information.
The transportation system is very good in Cologne. The most important is the tram (streetcar in US ).You can go everywhere in and around Cologne with it.The fare depends how far ypour destination is. I think in comparison with other German towns the prizes are ok.A lot of tourists use the tram and it's very easy.Because Cologne has a lot of tourists you should get a schedule at the tourist information center.
When use the tram and afterwards you need to change into a bus it's no problem. The schedules of the trams and buses are co-ordinated with one another. So you can't miss your connection ride.
Both bus and tram are 90% safe.In the city center of Cologne are so many people in it during the day I have never seen any trouble. My daughter is 16 and uses the tram every day and often in the evening between 8 and 10 pm. She has never had problems because at these times you are never alone there.
Of course there are some areas in Cologne that are more dangerous than others and you should avoid to use the tram there during the night. But every town in the worl has these areas.
So I can recommend the public traffic system in Cologne.
Also you can use the train when you live a bit outside of Cologne.
I hope I could help you and you understood everything because my English is not perfect. If you have other questions let me know.

Agreed, your English is very good usafan.  I've been in Cologne a week and I feel like most Germans think their English isn't perfect, even when it is!  Great job and thank you for the useful advice.:)
