Our cards run out in February 2025 can anyone tell me when we should start the renewal process and what we'd need to take with us.

Hello, the good news is that the procedure of getting the permanent residence is much more easier than to get long-term residence in Bulgaria which is up to 5 years :) on the condition that you are EU citizen.

You have to fill the form + documents as a proof that you have been living the country for the last 5 years. For example: copy of your labour contract, tax declarations, address registration, bank statement, utilities bills and etc.

It takes a week. So, you have enough time for this :) Submit the documents in Feb 2025.

@Kath948381 It depends on whether you are EU citizens (or Brits registered in BG before Brexit "was done"), or not.

Also, depends on how long you have had your residency cards (in total). If it's less than 5 years, you extend your long-time residence, if it's over 5 years, you can apply for permanent residence, and a 10-year card.

I think that it will be to extend our long term residence for now.

In Austria, we tell everyone to take all the documents you have with you. Just to be safe, you won't have to make another trip if you are asked for something else.

I'd allow yourself plenty of time Kath.

In France you have to apply for an annual visa renewal, between 2 and 4 months before the expiry date. If its on online process, it will probably tell you somewhere on the site.
