Prices in downtown way higher than in 2019 ?

Post new topic

N Winter

I just came back from Cancun ,and was last there in 2019 . The big grocery stores and smaller OXO stores seem to have doubled their prices . The downtown Hotels were only a bit higher ,which would seem normal.

Even the vendors at Markets 23 and 28 had higher prices and seemed unwilling to haggle as much as before .

Has anyone an explanation why the jump in prices . How do the local folks survive with these prices . Maybe wages skyrocketed ?

Hi to all, this is a worldwide result post covid. Been living full-time in Mexico since 2017. My sons live in Canada, they have noticed an increase within Canada. The same impacts came in Mexico too.

Since 2021, the basic items (canasta basica) have increased greatly for the locals and locals also want a decent life. The cost for building their basic homes have also increased.

The foreigners have also impacts on the local economy (buying land, building condos, exports of local produce ie avocados, tomatoes,)...rental properties like VRBO, AIRBNB!!!

Adios y buen dia a todos, GyC
