Здравейте Hi all, my wife and I are thinking of a move to Bulgaria, my wife is Slovák, I'm English (geordie), I have my own building business, but had enough of the UK and what is happening to it.

We've been looking at derelict/run down properties with large areas of land somewhere quiet, but it's pretty overwhelming when you first delve into the 'rabbit hole' of migrating.

We enjoy the outdoor life and skiing, hiking, biking, walking etc and my wife is a keen and adept forager, whereas I'm the builder and can turn my hand to all aspects of building/construction etc.

Our main worries are:-

The language barrier, especially dealing with the purchase, builders yards, utilities (although my wife can read and understand a bit of the language as she speaks Russian, but wouldn't be able to converse)

The best/most suitable location.

Income (although we would have a small income from rental properties in the uk).

We have a 16yr old son who has just started college, training for a career in civil and structural engineering and has a part time job with a large engineering company in Newcastle, so our full on move won't happen for another couple of years, but we're doing the groundwork now and wanting to buy now ready for the move, so expect a barrage of questions 😁😁😁😁

@Mickyas I'm a lancs lad living in the USA & l don't like what's happening here either & we are considering a move to BG in the near future because A/ They still have values in BG like a man is a man, & a woman is a woman, & they have been quoted as being the least illegal/migrant/whatever immigrant friendly country in Europe, which suits me!

B/ The bloody house prices are giveaway!

Hi Mick! Thankfully as Marcela is an EU citizen, you'll have a far easier time getting residency. So you're off to a good start!

But guys, do remember that in Bulgaria, we're the migrants.

Mickyas

@BritMickabroad exactly...😉😁 Reading from the same hymn sheet there. 😊😊😊

BritMickabroad

@Mickyas Keep in touch mate with your findings & progress & l'll do the same........ are you on FB messenger?

Mickyas

@BritMickabroad will do, I'm on messenger, but not Facebook (too censored and woke for me 😁) name is Micky Stockeo.

The best/most suitable location is what ever your requirements are, There are areas in the central, western and southern parts that are great for basic outdoor life like walking, bike riding etc…

Skiing there are a couple of places, best speaking to @gwyn or @Philip Mckay, I believe they frequent the mountains.

The beaches are to the east, North is flat, if you're looking for an English enclave there are a few around, but like others have said were the migrants, and remember that.

WOW! As other members have hinted, it's very strange that a prospective (serial-)migrant who wishes to leave a country they've migrated to for social, political or financial reasons should choose a destination because they believe it to be the least immigrant-friendly country in Europe!  Perhaps you'd care to share your definition of exactly what differentiates you from the "less welcome immigrant" variety?  Or do you prefer to regard yourself as an "Expat" and therefore a cut above the migratory hoi polloi?

I can only speak for myself but I have to say that so far you certainly sound like the kind of immigrant that I'd be less than delighted to have as a neighbour in my ghetto..... 1f914.svg

Loads of these people paint some picture in their heads about what its gonna be like. But when they rock up its a whole different ball game. If all the guff I read online was bang on old muggins here would have legged it a long time ago. All that nonsense about aggro towards illegal immigrants and whatnot is cobblers. Far more aggro in Ireland atm.

@BritMickabroad Take a reccy at Russia mate. I reckon its more your cuppa. Only the old wrinklies still think like that out here.

The outdoor life is available pretty much all over Bulgaria as the population is so small. The population density is a fraction of England/UK, maybe more like Scotland or USA. And there are several mountain ranges, such as the Balkan Mountains (west to east from Serbia to Sveti Vlas on the Black Sea), the Rhodopes (south of Plovdiv into Greece), and Pirin/Rila (south of Sofia near Bansko). The Central Balkan National Park is near Karlovo and the Pirin National Park is near Bansko, both are spectacular.

Veliko Tarnovo area is the best choice in my opinion as it is in central Bulgaria with easy access to all other seasonal places - ski or seaside. Plus it is a tourist city all year round

-@mickeyhart I think your response is a bit disingenuous, you're clearly not aware of the gravity of the situation with regards to 'illegal immigrants' being dumped around the UK and Europe. I fully understand what he was getting at and my concerns align with his, hence my looking to move. Russia is a far more stable place than a lot of the 'western' countries, i won't go into details but suffice to say when you have your ear to the ground and a wife who has experienced communism etc first hand, you tend to take a long hard look at events, the past 4 years have shown that.

It looks like there's a few of us with the same message - or perhaps your bot is broken. 1f601.svg

Either way, the exact meaning of your message seems to be rather lost in translation, I'm afraid: as my friend Dr McCoy might say,"It's English, Jim, but not as we know it!" 1f60e.svg
