Employer cancelling offer letter after asking to resign

Post new topic

Hi All,

I have a situation where a contracting company provided me an offer letter with joining date to join one of their client locations.

Accordingly i resigned from my existing company and during last 2 days of completion of notice period, they informed me that their client has some pending internal process and it might take another 15 to 30 days for confirmation of new joining date.

They said they can’t accept the visa or pay me until client confirms. I have been waiting for 1 month but they still don’t have joining date confirmation.

When i asked for compensation, they said they will give me 1 month salary but consider the offer is cancelled.

I left my job because of them and now they are playing with my career.

Appreciate if anyone can let me know what are my rights in this case and how should i move forward? because finding another job immediately is near to impossible for me.

Hi

I have just experienced same thing. My offer is revoked based on a very silly thing. It just seems like they are making excuse as my visa application was in process and j have notified my current place about me leaving. Its a horrible situation to be in.

Move on.  I have explained this hundreds of times.  An offer letter is NOT legally binding in anyway and that is why, I always make this statement (search the forums where I have said this repeatedly), NEVER resign until you have the visa in your hand.  There is absolutely nothing you can do as an offer is not a legal contract.

Well, this is rarely a case in UK as offer letter is given to you after thorough checks anyway. And for some jobs you have a deadline to give notice. For teachers, notice should be given few months before end of term, a set deadline.

It's not end of world but highly unprofessional and huge red flag as a workplace.

Irrelevant. You are not in the UK. This is Bahrain and GCC.  Different countries, different laws.

Offer letters are not legally binding. You don't have to like it, this is just the way it is.  Hence my advice ie dont resign till you have the visa in your hand.
