@Toon you keep mentioning a high net worth individual.But i think that means different things to different people. what does  it mean in the context of people immigrating to Cyprus.

ileautomobiles

@MacGeorge8035 ok great thank you! Will increase my checklist to show bank deposit at €30k just to be on the safe side.

I'll probably just take the risk. Whats the worst that can happen!

Lose the initial setup cost, my car not being able to come home with me, also having to come back to the UK and re-settle the kids!

The risk of not going, means we are staying in the UK.

MacGeorge8035

@ileautomobiles none of those things would be great. Can i ask if you are an EU passport holder or an UK passport holder.

ileautomobiles

@MacGeorge8035 I am a UK passport holder.

New entrants with lots of disposable income and not necessarily pensioners imo and could possibly include a net worth to Cyprus in terms of skillsets

Why go through the hassle delay and expense of bringing a car?

Sell in UK and pick something up on arrival.

phildraper

I brought my partners car and my motorcycle. According to Perter Morton they were worth about 33% more in Cyprus than the uK. If I left them behind I would have paid a lot more for the same thing in Cyprus. However, I did not have to pay duty or VAT on import but it has been a big hassle to get them registered here and as the car is diesel and over 5 years old the tax each year is going to be about 700 euro. I am unable to sell either for 3 years and it took 14 months to get them imported cleared and registered.

If I knew what was involved I still might have brought them but depending on the vehicles it might be worth it. I am guessing more valuable vehicles would be worth it. Car was worth 2500 in the UK and bike probably 6500. Another thing to factor in is the insurance is much higher in Cyprus than the UK for lots of reasons :-/

Drambuie

Life's too short for such hassle with a car worth £2500. before shipping etc.

I sold my car and bike in U. K.  and was driving the replacements day after I arrived all paperwork finished.

Must admit the 3500cc diesel I bought here was sold due to horrendous road tax.

Following a sleepless night and  actually considering moving to the TRNC we learned today that our application is still being processed ! I believe it was due to me using our original application number as this was the only number I had available . I still do not know why the immigration department sent the message that we had been denied immigration but we are very relieved.

In reply to @iontacar the only item we exceeded were the earnings from my pension , but that entailed moving investments offshore and using this as a regular monthly income . We did not need blood tests or police checks as our initial immigration appointment was a month before these conditions became part of the process.

Despite our ongoing issues with no biometric card , no Cypriot driving licence and only last week getting our white medical card , we love living here , we live in a small village in the hills - it is a wonderful place . We are determined to stay in Cyprus whatever obstacles are put in our way.

@Drambuie Depends what your threshold is to qualify for hassle.

I'm bringing the car because they sell out there for about €25k.

From what I've read and I've had confirmed from the 2 shipping companies I've spoken to...is when you transfer your permanent residency from UK to CY you are allowed to transfer a car to the destination you are moving to without paying import duty which from memory I think is 10% or pay the 19% VAT.

However shipping companies do have an agenda which is to make the sale, so I have messaged customs in Cyprus to confirm or deny before I make the shipment.  This way it means I can bring a car with me and the shipping cost is £950 for the R-Rak system and I can load my car with all the goods I want to take, meaning no need to ship a pallet over saving a few 100. Then there is a few 100 in agent fees and a few 100 in matriculation and some other costs that would still work out as a good deal.

After I get a written confirm or deny from CY customs, I will make the shipment....or not!!

@phildraper glad to hear it's possible, did you use a clearance agent at Limassol port?

What was the reason for delays, was any given or was it a case of, you'll get it when you get it, shut up and accept it?

ileautomobiles

@phildraper

Do you have any recommendations for a company I can contact for a quote?

Thanks

phildraper

We used Peter morton 2 ship our stuff. They we OK and said they would do the vehicle registration as well but 4 a much higher fee than the local fixer

To b honest it might have been quicker with them. However the customs clearence would not have been different. 14 months and after 3 months a visit every 2 for extentions. I suggest u contact Peter and may be Cyprus shipping company as they advertise a lot here. Peter is in the UK a lot and come over 2 c u. When u get here just accept the delays and smile dliwly slowly is the motto lol
