Private vs public school?

Hi All!

We have an offer on the table to move from Belgium to NJ (work place is Parsipanny). Besides the typical salary negotiations, our biggest concern is ensuring a comfortable education for our kids. While I hear/read that public schools in NJ are excellent (although quite different), many recommend that we look for a private school following the international curriculum. But since this costs much, much more, it's not that easy to decide.

Any Europeans having experience with public schools? Has this affected your return back home (as in, was the US diploma easily recognized)? Any advise on (school) districts and places to live for a family with 2 younger kids (3 and 5)?

Thanks a lot!
