Just a heads up.......

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT, MESOGI

From today 22/4/2024

To exchange a foreign license, you can still use the transport department, for exchange of a foreign driving license for a Cyprus one.

Renewals of a license, or paying for a learner license, or re issue of a lost or stolen license now has to be done via the Citizens Service Centre in Paphos ..... 22309100 for appointments.... This is because they only have 1 cashier available now

Just read this:

Cyprus

You can exchange your licence without taking a test. You must exchange your UK licence within 6 months of becoming a resident in Cyprus.

If you became resident in Cyprus before 31 December 2020, you must exchange your licence by 7 July 2021.

If you hold a licence from Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man, you may need to take a test.

My Questions are :

Do you have to change it after 185 days of staying CONTINUOUSLY in Cyprus ?

Or can you keep on using the UK olde driving licence till the expiry date ?

Or can you change it after 185 days have been completed in 2 visits within 12 months ?

As we want to become Cyprus tax residents am I correct in thinking that this can only be done after completing 185 days in Cyprus ?

And does this have to be continuous staying in Cyprus or can that be in a 12 month period ie 2 visits ?

cheers

Within 6 months of becoming resident..... Licenses expire when the photo expires..refer to date on licence at 4b (card)...olde licences ie paper issued pre 1998 I believe are still valid until 70....

Have the UK Gov got this wrong ?

Can you please supply a link which says we can drive till 4b date

Your link is wrong.

The date at 4b is the photo validity expiry date making a UK license invalid after that date.

Here in Cyprus a UK licence is only valid for 90 days as a visitor...once resident you can drive using it for a maximum of 6 months and within that time you MUST change to a Cyprus licence. Sadly complicated and delayed by pink slip application and card issuing.. as licensing here depends on having the actual card as others will attest.

Once over 70 you need medical checks as fit to drive ..every three years I believe ..am not there yet so hey ho..

There are plenty of Cyprus links from expat groups and law firms to check this

Does this imply that you don't actually need a photo ID UK Driving Licence?
