Thailand Health care

Post new topic

Hi

My Thai girlfriend spends a fortune on health care, but everything I read suggests that health care should be free in Thailand for citizens.

I understand, from a bit of research, that she might only be eligible for free health care in the area registered in her Tabiean Baan, but she, along with other people I spoke to, on my last visit to Thailand do not seem to have much knowledge of the Tabiean Baan

She also has to pay for health care for her mother, who has lived in the same village  for a very long time so would be in her registered heath district.

She gets annoyed with me when I raise the subject and says I live here and it isn't like what you read.

Is anyone able to enlighten me on how heath care actually works in Thailand ?

Thanks

Andrew

Maybe her idea of what constitutes health care is different from yours! From my experience, health care in SE Asia is fairly reasonably priced.

Thailand has UHC system, every Thai, indipendable from where they stay, has a right to free health care for the sum of 30 thb per hospital visit. This includes all expenses.

They do need a Thai ID, which is usually linked to their tabien baan ad they do need to identify themselves.

If she works she will have coverage with social security at 5%  of waged with a maximum of 750 thb per month, matched by the employer.

You are being misled as per your information

@ab36

Are you by any chance paying for this health care?

ab36

Not directly

I give her a fixed amount of money to use as she chooses I stopped covering additional expenses a long time ago

Below link is additional to the existing free health care scheme, UHC or 30 thb scheme.

Any thb you give her is unnecessary
