Requirements for permanent residency in Belgium (non-EU citizen)

Dear all,

I'm considering to apply for permanent residency. My current card is a single permit for being a researcher. To give a bit of background, I studied both a master's (2 yrs) and a PhD (4 yrs) in Belgium. There is no gap between my master's and PhD (I left Belgium only for three months). Currently, I have been working as a researcher at a university (for nearly one year). Do you think that I'm eligible to apply for permanent residency?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience.

@yat123 I think it's better to search for your answers in other ongoing thread discussions https://www.expat.com/en/searchresult/e … nation=437

Also, it might be worth visiting your commune as they can better advise you based on the case.

@yat123 for the permanent residency, the student years count as 0.5. question: are you on single permit during your PhD years?
