Unused travel baggage. allowance

Post new topic

I will be traveling back to the US in early nov.  When I came to VN, the baggage info on the flight was a little uncertain so I

only came with a carry-on,  Now I am returning and I see I am allowed 2 checked bags.

It seemed at one time there was a website to connect people who would use their luggage allowance to ship things to others for free or for a fee.  Does anyone recall such a site?

Then I wondered if there is anything in VN that is cheaper or desirable to have or resell.

In other places I traveled or lived,  I would look for antiques and collectibles.  But I have not seen any place to look for such items in VN.

Was it pabblerDOTcom? I looked into it a few years back but never tried it.

You might be interested in visiting Saigon Antique Street.

Lot's of fakes/repros there, with some legitimate antiques mixed in. It's a very nice way to wile away an afternoon, even if you don't find anything which interests you. I bought a very nice non-functional late 1940s Bakelite tube radio there, which I repaired (filter capacitors) and gave to my landlord in Saigon when he mentioned it was exactly like the one his parents owned in the 1960s.

Now, if you do find genuine antiques and/or items of historic cultural importance there or elsewhere in VN, be aware that there are definite prohibitions in place regarding the export of some items. You'll want to do a little research before trying to take anything out of country to determine whether export restrictions apply to a given piece.

@OceanBeach92107 I tried there but maybe I will search under a different phrase.

@Aidan in HCMC Thanks for the link. Parts of Eastern Europe have similar laws regarding the export of certain items.

I generally focus on military and religious items.
