Why is a power of attorney needed and divorce in Egypt

I live in the United States and my husband lives in Egypt. I was married in Egypt in 2014. I asked him to file for divorce due to the fact that he has never came here and we have been separated for 8 years. I would have filed for divorce but I was told that the courts in Egypt would have to see me at least once in order to finalize a divorce. But I was told a man can file for divorce and I could sign and nothing else is needed that I would not need to appear in court or anything. Well now my husband is saying that he needs a power of attorney. Why would I need to sign up power of attorney over to his attorney? We are both Christian and we're married at the courts in Cairo. His sister had sent a response saying that it would cost him $50,000 pounds. That he needs the power of attorney. But can anyone answer why he would need a power of attorney and is it true that it is needed. In order for me to get a power of attorney here to send to his lawyer I would need to go to Washington DC on which I live very far from. And the Egyptian embassy here is very unreliable. And I would have to get my state to sign that.why would his lawyer need a power of attorney from me? His lawyer is not working for me his lawyer is working for him. Can he not just file for divorce and send me the papers and I can sign them? What is the issue with this can someone please explain this to me

Issuing a power of attorney to another person is a serious matter. First, the power of attorney form required from you must be sent to you and reviewed by a lawyer.

You must know why he wants a power of attorney and what phrases will be included in the power of attorney. This is a serious matter.

It willnot cost him 50000 dollars they are lying to you. You can get a power of attorney for you if you have anything here in Egypt IE a car or houses and they can be made yours if you purchased them and paid for them, a solicitor will go to court and get one for you. As for a divorce it's both expensive in Egypt. I'm sure you can find a solicitor that can do this for you. Do not sign anything power of attorney or anything else that he demands you to sign. You could be signing away your rights and anything y9u own.
