New Warning On Keeping Valuables Close

Post new topic

Maybe it’s old but when flying in make sure you leave nothing to take in overhead bins. Now an airline is giving warnings.

“This will be sent to those who have a reservation for a JAL flight as of December 2, 2024 (JST).

notice

Recently, there have been an increasing number of reports of valuables being stolen on board. Please be careful not to place your passport, cash, credit cards, or other valuables in the overhead compartments, but rather keep them close to you whenever possible

Japan Airlines

I have noticed when traveling I have been made to put even small luggage or packs overhead flying in. Then watched very close. Distracted some. Maybe this is nothing new but wanted to pass on to fellow travelers. Common sense.

In general, whether you travel by planes, or boats or trains, or by road or especially when walking around, you should never ever have those valuables in any kind of bag that can be separated from your body.

Some sort of money bag/pouch that be strapped on in your underwear is good for emergency cash and surplus cash you don't want in your wallet in separate resealable plastic bags. Passport, cards and phones are best carried in the multiple inner pockets of a safari vest also in separate resealable plastic bags. The outer pockets are great for holding your tickets, boarding pass, a small paperback book and anything else you want to access quickly.

Your carry-on bag should be a large roomy wearable laptop bag with a strap but one having multiple sections and pockets so it can carry much more than just your laptop or pad. Again, don't put your passport, cash or cards in this bag.

I have a small bag. It's enough for my tablet, chargers etc, and documents.

That stays with me, either with the shoulder strap over me, or my leg through it.
