I am reaching out to the community for some guidance and expertise on a challenging situation I am facing here in Bahrain. Three months ago, I was employed as a pharmacist in a retail pharmacy(worked for 16 months), but after I informed my employer that I am pregnant, he wrongfully terminated me from job without prior notice and has since refused to pay me my last two months' salary. Despite my repeated attempts to resolve this matter, my employer continues to withhold my rightful dues and even denied me a formal termination notice, instead informing me of my last working day via WhatsApp message.
I approached the Expat Protection Center, who tried to contact him, but their attempts were unsuccessful and they blocked his CR. Subsequently, the legal support team at the center took my statements and evidence, filing a case in the labor court. I also hired a lawyer to represent me, and the case is now in the High Court.
Amidst all this, as my pregnancy weeks are getting closer, I made plans to travel back to my home country for medical care and family support. I gave my lawyer power of attorney to handle the case while I was away. However, my employer found out about my plans to leave Bahrain and, in retaliation, filed a baseless criminal theft case against me, accusing me of stealing medicines from the pharmacy.
I have already attended investigations at the police station and public prosecution office, and as a result, I have been placed under a travel ban, which is preventing me from leaving Bahrain to return to India. I am now 27 weeks pregnant, and the constant stress from these false allegations, along with the financial strain of the unpaid salary, is seriously affecting my health and the well-being of my unborn child.
The case is still under investigation, and I have submitted a request to the prosecution office to lift the travel ban based on my medical records. In the meantime, I asked my lawyer about the next steps and they replied it's hard to lift the travel ban by considering your requests and also advised me to file a case against my employer for non-payment of salary. However, I am afraid of taking any further actions, as the situation feels like it’s becoming a trap.
I am reaching out to any experts or individuals who have experience with similar situations to kindly advise me on my next steps. Could this situation potentially prevent me from leaving Bahrain? Are there any organizations I can approach for further support?
Your insights would mean a lot to me during this difficult time.
Thank you in advance for your help.
