My husbands company have asked him to consider a move to Jerusalem for a year. While excited our biggest concern is for our dogs. We have 2 labradoodles. how welcome will they be? Are there dog friendly parks\beaches?

Hi there,

A part answer to your question is that there are many, many parks in Jerusalem'Click this link for an example.

As Jerusalem is not on the coast, there are no beaches - but
Tel Aviv is only an hour away.
The orthodox Jewish community is not too dog friendly - not sure why - but there are thousands of other dog lovers - and, generally, Israel is a very dog loving country!
Hope this is of help - and welcome to Israel ( and don't believe everything that you see on the news about us.)

We are not THAT bad.

Nobody could be!

best regards from

There's an enclosed dog run at Gan Sacher near the central bus station, but that's the only one I know of off the top of my head. There's also two other big parks in the city (Gan Haatzmaoot and Gan Hapaamon) and people always have their dogs there, so if your dogs are OK in urban settings then they should be just fine.

Dogs as pets are a relatively new import to Israel so, like Andyboy said, some groups are less dog-friendly than others (the Orthodox Jews for one, as well as many Muslims since dogs considered ritually unclean and they don't keep them as pets). In Tel Aviv, though, people walk with their dogs through the shopping mall. More and more people in Jerusalem have dogs now, so you and your Labradoodles will fit right in.
