"The city stipulates that only new tourist apartment projects are exploited for short-term accommodation, apartments to stay not to be business of this type."

"...the city stipulates only projects built for the purpose of mixed use (tourist apartments) to be business for tourist accommodation."

"...the regulation clearly states that it is only used for the purpose of renting for living, absolutely do not use the apartment for other purposes (short-day tourist habitation, airbnb ...)."

"...many apartment projects in Ho Chi Minh City, although they have banned homeowners from renting business apartments, especially the airbnb model, but it is difficult to control. This leads to instability, a conflict between residents and the rental business group, causing psychological distress, leading to insecurity and fire safety."

"...said to be necessary to strictly manage tourism accommodation activities, return the living environment to residents in the apartment."

I can absolutely see this spreading.

Did you have a chance to read the comments from local people at the bottom of the article? The legislation certainly seems to have popular support.

I didn't have a chance to read the article yet 🙏

I was just commenting because there was recently a big story in the Hanoi press about phony listings on Airbnb in Ha Long City, with a big increase in foreigners showing up and not having their place to stay, or being redirected to some substandard place that would never be booked otherwise, except for the deception.

The authorities were taking a very serious look at the situation.

Without reading the story, I can say what's happened in the United States: The more Airbnb grows, the greater hit that lodging places such as hotels and motels take.

also, rarely do you find a homeowner in the USA who is happy that another homeowner in their neighborhood has turned a place into an Airbnb.

from that I figure the political pressure to do something has probably been quite serious.
