Hi there.....I'll be working at King Faisal Hospitalfrom mid December....Are there any nurses on this forum that are already working there?

What is the hospital like?

What sort of accommodation is offered??

What are the working hours like...??

Any other advice would be great too!

Many thanks in advance!

Calm-guy

Congratulations! This hospital is considered the best hospital in KSA. They usually offer free housing to their employees. The work hours range from 8 am to 5 pm. I don't work there but this is what I know of :)
Good luck on your search.

musicman

The best hospital to work in the Kingdom. Congrats. Have a great time.

SamUSA70

i heard it is the best and the compound you stay in is nice

sumiuk

thank you for the advice...but do you know of anyone who already works there??

SamUSA70

by the way.. Happy birthday to you girl :)

sumiuk

thank u Sam! :)

hi!

I actually have a lot of female friends who work at the same exact hospital! I used to work there at the communication department. My friends work as nurses at the ER though. The working hours can change and there are shifts sometimes as well. They have to do night shifts every other month. The accommodation offered by the hospital is really good. It's also inside the hospital area. The hospital is the best and biggest hospital in Saudi Arabia.
Good luck with work here. let me know if you needed more information :)

sumiuk

Thanks Mobash! I think I'm really anxious about the accommodation side of things.....

I really have no idea of what to expect! It doesnt how many books I read, I suppose I'll only know once I get there!

musicman

You can be assured the facilities offered within the KFSH will be truly luxurious and way above the accommodation that any other hospital in KSA offers. I have visited some of the facilities many years ago and its truly wonderful. Even the working conditions and peers at the hospital will be above par. Good Luck!

sumiuk

Awwww thanks Musicman!

That truly does help! It'll be a great change from working within the NHS! Even though it's not that bad! Lol!

moabash

Totally agree with what musicman said. Good luck with work and I hope you enjoy your stay in Riyadh :)

ericalr

I will be flying out in February for a position in the ED at King Faisal. You'll have to give me a information/advice in December! Good luck.

sumiuk

Ericlr...are u general trained?!!

ericalr

I am not quite sure what that means. My history however, I've been working as a Registred Nurse in California for approx 5 1/2 years. I have experience in Neurology and mostly Emergency Department. I will be working in the Emergency Department at KFSH. How about you?

sumiuk

I meant are you an adult trained or paediatrics??

My background in ed too but with paeds! I didn't get ed position coz I'm paeds trained! I'll be on a ward!

ericalr

Ah yes, we are trained in the care of Peds and Neo but we transfer all our kiddos out to a children's specialty hospital. So, yes then I am "general ED nursing" lol.

ericalr

So mainly our pt's are adults, but I am PALS and NRP certified. I start ivs, caths, etc on peds often. But I definetly have a lack of knowledge in peds/neo in comparison to adults.

sumiuk

Oh wow! We have the same skills! I specialise in paeds but they wanted someone dual trained! Lucky u! We shud meet wen u come across!

ericalr

Yes definetly! As soon as I know which complex Im staying in I'll let you know. Really nervous/excited!!

KaraRN

Sumiuk & Ericalr,

I am also going to be joining the KFSH team in late January...no ED though :/.  I'll be on one of the units.  Sumi, are you already there?  If so, how do you like it?  Any words of advice?
Can't wait for a new adventure!

sumiuk

@sumiuk

musicman

Hey there;

I've been in Riyadh just about a month now.  I'm a flight paramedic supervisor working with the Security Defense Services.  My wife will be joining me here hopefully in a few months and she is an RN. She is hoping to get on at one of the hospitals once she gets a little acclimated.   After reading the posts here I was wondering if any of you RNs presently working at King Fasil know if there are any openings for an RN.  If so, how would she go about applyhing once she gets here?  I would appreciate any information that could help her get a job especially if King Fasil is the best hospital to work at.  Thanks

i can help with a contact email if u like. Just remember that some companies (like mine) would require your to return to the point of origin and re-apply with an agency from that side. so if u can arrange it from now its better. there are recruitment agents back in your home country that she can apply, make sure that when she applies she should specify which hospital she wants to work.

I'm not quite sure I understand. Do you mean she has to apply from where she is in the U.S.?  I sent her the link for the hospital application. I told her to fill it out and go from there.

Your wife might want to contact this recruiting agency.

Many healthcare professionals here in the ME have come through this agency and I know they are above board.

Best of luck.

Eldon,

I just started KFSH this week.  (From USA).  I don't have a lot of info regarding the actual units.  However, if you wife is interested, I may be able to give her a little info and/or find her a person on the applicable unit to talk to.  What is her specialty?  I do like it so far.  And depending on her specialty, there probably is openings.

Kara;

Thanks for the response.  My wife works in the ER but she would like to try the ICU or Pediatrics if possible.  Her e-mail address is: katherine.taylor79@yahoo.com.  I'm sure she would appreciate any information you can give her.  It would also be nice to have someone that she can look forward to meeting when she gets here.

Thanks

Hi there,

I am Australian working here as a doctor at University-hospital in Riyadh. I have been here for the last few months.

Life here is very new and strange for me, so you can say I am struggling to survive. I don't know people here and I don't have any friends. I would love to meet expats here in particular medical staff in MC and Mcx

Kind regards
Robert...

Finally a thread that can give me an insight on KFSH! I recently just got accepted there also, if possible I'd like to get some insight on the atmosphere in the hospital, the housing, and how the work environment is in the hospital. I'm currently just waiting for the agency I'm working at to finish the paperwork and I should be on my way too.

Its one of the best hospitals in Saudi,I get an offer to FSH instead I chose King Saud Hospital, working hours are long and many hours per week, accommodation sucks and many bad things  ,some times we make bad choices;I can't wait till I finish my contract in 7 months time

2lo2slo

faysg I JUST PM'd you, I have some questions.

myyams

Hi everyone,

This thread is old I think, but hopefully someone of you are still around. I have a few questions if someone doesn't mind. I don't mean to be rude by posting on someone else's thread.

I am female though coming with my husband and kids to Jeddah to live on the King Faisal, Amoudia compound.  From what I gather, single ladies live in their own section. Is this right? If so, can ladies living in the family housing section come to swim in the single ladies only pool? Also is there a gym only for ladies?  I am Muslim so I don't swim in front of men in public but would LOVE to go swimming in a ladies section and work out in a gym etc.  Is this going to be possible?  Can I just walk over or is there some sort of security or something that would not allow me to use the single ladies facilities?  Is there a also a female only beauty salon?? That would be a dream to have on site. I have a lot of little kids so leaving the compound at my whim for something as simple as a hair cut is giant challenge!!

thanks!
