Hi guys we went with some friends to get their id cards yesterday and altho our czech friend managed to get his sorted(well applied for) his wife of 16 years couldnt apply - she was told she had to go to castille place and get permission to stay...is this correct.

A non-EU citizen has to get their residency permit sorted before getting an ID card. As they are married, she is a legal dependent of her husband, so she can get a residency permit by right, but he may need to get his residency certificate first.

ah right am with you  now.....thanks G

as they have already bought a property here and are here trying to get it all ready for living in.

cheers

He will need to get his residency permit first as she is dependent on him ,legally.

In the same situation,2 years ago, we both got our permits on the same day. She needs to have the 'sticker' in her passport before being able to apply for the ID card.

It might take some time and sort out health insurance issues for both of you at the same time. No health insurance , no residence permit!

Cheers
